Report a phone call from 08454749636 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Macy| 18 repliesReceived a call from a withheld no, said could stop nuisance calls, there would be a monthly fee for this but if the calls did'nt stop then call this no 084554749636!!!!! Who r these people!!!!
- Old Mother Riley replies to Macy| 2 repliesYou show two different versions of the number. Which one is correct?
- Nan replies to Macy| 3 repliesAnyone calling from a "withheld" number offering to stop nuisance calls is a nuisance caller! If they had half a brain they would realise that "withheld" numbers are the ones that people don't answer. The people offering a "service" to stop calls for a fee, usually can do no more than TPS, which is free. They cannot stop International calls, Withheld calls, or Unavailable numbers, which are the bulk of callS these days. Those offering a unit which you can used to stop calls, again for a fee, are slightly better, but you have to watch out for hidden annual fees. There is also now a 'phone on the market, the BT6500 which, at about the same price as a call blocker, does an extremely good job of stopping the above mentioned calls, plus 10 individual numbers. With the blocked calls, the 'phone doesn't ring and they can't leave a message.
- Pamela| 1 replyI just got a call from that number. I should have asked how he got my number I phoned the TPS a few weeks ago. could he have got hold of it from there somehow.?
I have rung the TPS , but the person I spoke to said that it was a marketing ploy, and they work on the assumption that everyone gets unwanted calls. Coincidence?- Call type: Telemarketer
- Jan replies to PamelaYes, they also phoned me with the same offer, they even had the first part of my card details which I believe can be found on online data bases along with addresses and telephone numbers. Looks like they are the latest scam. My bank assured me that without all of my card information, they could do nothing.
- Boggy| 1 replyUnsolicited call from this number (Jordan) explaining that they were going to stop all nuisance calls - sting in the tale was that they wanted a fee to do this. When asked whether they were part of TPS or OFCOM they admitted that they weren't but were 'associated with them'. Decided that this was just another scam
- Alison Jacobs| 1 replyGot a call from CPS Call Prevention Service stating that i had called them registering to have unwanted calls blocked and they were follwing it up they told me they could register me for 3 years at a price of £74.99 and this would stop all the bogus calls for 3 whole years!!! Well i was so stupid and gullable that i gave them my card details etc., then decided to ring the call centre that i had registered with and explained the call i had just had and they told me it was a scam and i needed to cancel the payment as their service is FREE and they are nothing to to with CPS, I rang my bank and cancelled my debit card straight away.
How could i be so stupid, but the story ended well for me!!! luckily enough.- Caller: CPS Call Prevention Service
- SheenaGot call from (JAKE)....offering this 'service' ...he opened call saying saying he understood I have been receiving a high volume of sales calls....he gave me this number.....then went on to ask for a payment to get them stopped....I told him I wasnt interested....then I felt he aggressively said ' I thought you said you were getting a lot of these calls' I told him I deal with it myself.....he said ' how will you do that?' I said I would just hang up ' goodbye' ....Not happy at all with this....

- Paul C| 2 repliesMy elderly mother got a call from this number today. The caller gave his name as Richard Evans and stated that he was calling from the Call Prevention Service whicech he also abbreviated to the CPS. My mother became confused and passed the phone to me. "Mr Evans" stated that the CPS would send my mother a piece of equipment which, when plugged in to the phone system, would block all unwanted calls etc. etc. He also claimed that they could put a stop to almost all junk mail. All they needed was her credit or debit card details and for her to set-up a password. She would then apparently be covered for the next 3 years all for the cost of approximately £79. I smelled a rat straightaway. I refused to pass over any card details and asked that he put everything in writing. When I asked how he obtained my mother's details he was a little coy. I informed him that my mother's phone was already registered with the TPS and that I would be reporting him and his organisation for violating the UK law. Unsurprisingly he bid me goodbye and hung up the phone. Take my advice..... don't give any details... hang up.... register with TPS.

- Rene Smithson| 3 repliest a call today from 'CPS' stating the understood I had been getting unwanted calls. As I had just registered a complaint with 'TPS' I thought that was who was calling.
He told me I would be sent a device to fix to the phone and it would block withheld numbers, silent calls, bogus international calls etc., etc., I was so relieved that the nuisance would cease.
Then he proceeded to state it was just £1.90 a month and he was going to put me on a 3 years contract.
Could he have my card details, I asked again who he was and when he stated 'CPS' call prevention services. I made a joke about him being the Crown Prosecution Service. He said no he was working alongside TPS.
I put him off by saying my husband was waiting outside in the car and he had our credit card, he said he would ring me back later that day and sign me up.
In the meantime I rang TPS gave them all the details and they said they knew about this company and I was not to give card details to them. They are scam artists Beware!!- Caller: Call Prevention Services

- Rene Smithson replies to Rene Smithson| 1 replyRe this report, should have mentioned I done a '1471' search on their number (08454749636) and it was a withheld number.
How stupid of them not to think that that is the first thing people do after some calls.. - Iceman| 4 repliesHad a call from CPS (as described above) and, similar to one other poster fell for it as I confused them with the TPS with whom I'd just registered. Immediately emailed them stating I had changed my mind and not to take any money. No reply and of course they did take it!
Have since called 08454749636 several times. The first time they stated that all I had to do was return the box to them when I received it and they would do a refund. I returned the box by Royal Mail signed for, and it has now been returned to me as "Addressee unknown". Called again and the "Customer Service Advisor" claimed it wasn't them and another company had been using their contact details!!
Spoke to a young girl there this morning, told her the story and her initial comment was of course it is now past the 7 day distance selling rules so there was nothing they could do, and surprise surprise all managers were unavailable! I then made her aware that I had commenced Charge Back of my debit card through Visa and still wanted to return the box. As I am going to that area on Saturday I asked if I could drop it in. Suddenly she was new and didn't know if they had a letter box!!!! I asked her to check with a colleague who stated it was ok - won't be doing so of course as I'll have no evidence of having returned it.
I hope to finally get my money back and feel like I've been kicked in the guts for falling for it, normally I'm so astute.
If anyone wishes to contact this company a little research has identified their address as
:
Call Prevention Service
Victoria Chambers (Basement)
Fir Vale Road
BH1 2JN
They are a trading name of:
Stop Call Ltd
49-51 Seabourne Road
Bournemouth
BH5 2HA (although their web-site shows an incorrect postcode)
However, having typed their company registration number into the Company House site their registered office is:
STOP CALL LIMITED

Get the feeling they may be hiding behind different names and addresses?
A quick Google Street View search identifies all 3 offices as dirty little holes but if anyone fancies getting together and paying all 3 an angry mob visit please let me know!!!
Good luck to anyone else fighting this company.- Caller: Call Prevention Service
- SandraP| 9 repliesI received a phone call on the 25th July from an agent at the 'Call Prevention Service' on 0845 474 9636 offering me this stopbox which could stop the sales calls. I did register and pay for the box which was £79.99. I received my box 4 days after registering with them, I plugged my box in straight away and it didn't power up, I rang up and they said is was because i had a BT phone and needed new leads which i received 3 days later. Once all plugged in it powered up and my sales calls stopped, I do receive a few now and them but I press the blacklist button on the box and everything is fine. I have been nothing but impressed.

- Nan replies to SandraPSo why have you looked up this con company on a site for reporting unknown, unwanted and scam calls? Positive posts are put on by scam companies to fool people into thinking they are legit. The bit about having a BT 'phone is just the icing on the cake. People 'phoning up about nuisance calls are nuisance callers!
- Joe PublicI have actually worked in one of the cps call centres in Bournemouth. Many of the call centre staff check websites like these as we are always interested to see the aftermath of our phone calls. The company is unregulated so while i worked there i could say almost anything over the phone without consequence. No the company does not work in conjunction with the TPS. However you are not scammed out of the £79.99 as you actually receive the 'box' (cps pro call blocker) which does exactly what is pitched to you in the phone call. A senior manager even rings you back to reiterate what you have bought before any payment is even taken. There is no illicit malpractice whatsoever and if you have doubts on the phone about the legitimacy of any company then use common sense and do not give out your bank details. I appreciate it is easy for an elderly person to become confused on the phone but surely this product is ideal as it will prevent any future scam attempts.

- June| 1 replyJust answered WITHHELD call. Man named Thomas said he was following up a request made by my husband and his company was Call Preventive Service CPS. He gave a password which he said my husband had given him and I confirmed it was a likely password. After a long speal about stopping unwanted calls he said he was posting a welcome pack with an adaptor for our phone and asked me to confirm my post code, which he gave and was correct. Then informed me it would cost £1.99 per month for 3years (£70.99) and thereafter free for life. Then he asked who was my bank. I told him I would not give him any confidential information. Then he started to get a little irate and tried to convince me it was just a simple question. At this I told him to ring back in half an hour to speak to my husband, 2 hours later still waiting! My husband has never approached any company for this service,

- Chris| 3 repliesMy elderly 81year old Mother-in-Law got taken in by Stop Call Ltd or Call Prevention Service - Whatever they want to call themselves! She was talked into giving over her bank details to pay £72 for a plastic box which ironically stops unwanted calls. When the box arrived it was useless as it did not even come to life when the lead was plugged in. I phoned the Company and told the operator my disgust at conning an elderly pensioner, she refused to talk to me saying it had to be my Mother-in-Law requesting her money back. Since then she has constantly phoned them to request a refund and they have continuously given her excuses like sending out a new lead to get the box working! She has now sent the box back - paying again for postage, but still they carry on. They just will not give her the money back and at her age a smooth talking operator manages to convince her everytiime that they are sorting it out. Stay away from this Company they are praying on the elderly!

- Chris replies to Chris| 1 replySince writing my original post my Mother-in-Law has been called back to say they have received her faulty box back. However she can't have a refund as it wasn't sent back within 7 days. They have been stringing her along since May 2013, promising leads which never turned up. Eventually telling her to send the box back with no mention of their 7 day rule. Looks like next step is to join everybody else in contacting Trading Standards.
