Withheld number (The 0845 5439 508 was the number they gave me verbally).  Said they were from the UK business directory and the only company officially working for Google.  The said I paid them £99.99 on 8th June 2009 by Visa Debit and the payment for year 2 of the contract was due.  However due to a government initiative I would  now get 4 years extra free when I renewed and they just needed to take payment details.

I asked them to confirm the original payment date (witch I never made) and also the callers name he gave as Steven Porter.  I asked him to send an invoice for the outstanding amount, but he said that they need to sort it out by 2.30pm as Google will charge them £30 extra per day.  I told them that I would not be extending the contract and was informed that it was £129 to cancel, so I told them to add the google charges onto my invoice, I was then asked when would I be paying, I replied that once I receive the invoice then I will ask the accounts department to pay as soon as possible. (Yea Right!)

I will be passing this information on to OFCOM and the local authorities.

Got a call and this was the number that the guy said he was calling from, tho it was withheld on my phone.

Said he was from a business directory whom I had signed up with last year on a 2 year contract to optimise my website for Google (I had done no such thing) and now this year's money was due. I had apparently paid £80 last year and so he was looking for that now for this year. Said his name was Mark.

I told him I had not signed up to any such contract, and would certainly remember paying £80! But he said I definitely did, he could assure me of that. As I was busy at the time of the phonecall, I asked for his number and said I'd phone him back. He gave me the 0845 number above.

I called back 5 mins later but it was engaged.

I've not tried calling again as I googled the number and come up with this site - what a chancer! Worried I'll get charged a premium rate charge on hold or something so won't be calling back to complain.

He's not called back but I'm actually hoping he will so I can give him a peace of my mind.

Exactly the same issues and clearly a scam.  Have never used this company and they fail to produce and links to the online advert or any information to back up their claims.

I got a call from them stating all the above however I have my mobile and land line blocked for unwanted calls so I knew it was a bit dodgy. They got my number from a company that is promoting my company free of charge until it's informs me otherwise. This company works hard to promote me and if the idiots had got any money out of me I would have not paid the genuine company.

Thank you for this site I was initially taken in but cancelled my card before the £99 was taken. I checked in case of a scam as man said I would need to speak to someone else in 15 mins time Before he rang back I cancelled card

I received a call saying we paid 100 on the 27/10/09 (no record from our bank account) and we owed 99.99 to extend our add on google for the next 3 years...i said id check with my colleague and call them back, they gave me the number 08455439508 and said to speak to Lewis...i figured out it was a scam after checking the bank statement and googling the number!

I have never had any issues with the company mentioned, i took a 3 year listing out with the business directory on the 3rd October 2010 and have seen my business increase already in the past month

The person that I dealt with was a chap called Stephen and he was very clear in what he was offering and over the past 8 week the service he said he would provide has been stuck too and very efficient

I guess all multi-million pound companys have an complaints department for a reason !!!!

the person on the phone was a bit pushey but since taking the listing i have had alot of business from the site just need to learn people skills

think you will find most companys withhold there number when calling!!!!!!!!

I have had the same thing happen to me today.  They stated that the payment must be taken today and if I was not happy they would refund tomorrow.  Ridiculous.  I said I would not pay until I had found proof of previous payment.  I searched all my bank statements and could not find a previous payment a year ago for £99.  They claimed to have shot themselves in the foot by not getting signed contracts so I told them that I would not be shooting myself in the foot too by paying for something that I clearly did not remember.

I am so glad I stuck to my guns and refused.  I was very upset at the time.  I can't believe even now that people are capable of this.

I presume these calls aren't actually from the UK Business Directory.  I have a free listing with them and I'm sure that they're legit.  But it seems someone is impersonating them - someone going by the name of Ben Scott told me that I owed £99 plus VAT for the remainder of the contract I took out last year.  I definitely don't have a paid contract with them.  All of the details this person had about me, he could have got from my own website.  He could have been literally *anyone.*

I'll email the Business Directory and see whether they know the 'employee' in question.  If he is with them, I'll post again here, but as I say I expect these calls are nothing to do with them.

The number which these callers give out *is* the business directory's number - but the Directory's claiming no-responsibility for the calls.

I had a call from a withheld number giving me an advertising offer at £99.99 for three years. As I was busy I said he could email me with the details and I would think about it. An email arrived from info@ukbusinessdirectoryltd.co.uk congratulating me on the high response to my ad on their website and asking me to renew it. This must be a scam, because I have never used them. It was signed off: Luke Hendry, with this number, which I then searched and found all these similar accounts.

this is a mock website with a skyped phone number (you can create 0845 numbers with skype to use from a skype compatible mobile)


the interesting thing is, this guy made a mistake and I managed to get his proper mobile phone number. I'm trying to telelphone the real company in berkshire to give it to them, but they don't have a telephone number according to their website, and BT directory enquires.

The mobile number this guy is using to perpetrate this scam is 07528 796245 as of 20th April . I just had a call from him.

I too have been conned by this guy. Originally I took out a listing with them which was put on their website, and then renewed this year in July, but they called me again 2 months later and I stupidly paid again. (Lousy memory!)
I phoned them about this and they checked the invoice numbers and agreed I'd paid twice for the same thing, Premium Lifetime Advertisement, and agreed they would refund me the overpayment.
Since then, Luke Hendry has repeatedly phoned me, which I finally took, and said he'd had a conversation with me explaining that the payment was for a banner ad on their site ( which isn't there)  and they wouldn't be making any refunds. This conversation never took place and I believe they invented the whole thing to get out of making a refund, he also said other people were using their name and it wasn't them who'd agreed to the refund, so how were they able to check the invoice details?
Avoid this company at all costs, they don't operate honestly.

I get a call at least twice a month from www.ukbusinessdirectoryltd.co.uk who always ask for £99 as a 2nd year renewal fee for a listing that I've never had. We haven't paid for online advertising in the form of directories for approx 5 years. These calls hav been going on for over a year and although Its become a bit of a joke in the office I'm appalled that they operate in such an underhand manner. Whilst they have a directory online, they only list 19 skip companies in the whole of the uk which is effectively a useless directory if you're looking for skiphire.

www.ukbusinessdirectoryltd.co.uk are trying to con people out of money that they don't owe and therefore they are nothing more than scam artists.

I have also had a call from a guy called Liam, he said I had payed VAT and I shouldn't have and wanted my card details to give me a refund.  I said i was not easy with giving my card detais and asked for the company number to call him back.  He gave me 08455439508 tried to ring it but not registered in use.  Cheked our invoices and never paid an amount of £149,99. Not sure if its the same people but please dont give your card details out over the phone to anyone you dont know.
