Sick of calls from this number which hangs up before leaving a message despite my number being on the do not call register!

I've had 6 calls from this number at increasingly short intervals: 5 days between first 2, then 3 days, then 2, then daily for the last 3 days.
As a matter of principle I don't answer numbers not in my contacts, as its usually sales reps/marketing drones wasting my time.
I picked up on third call just out of curiosity (but didn't speak) and a person was on the other end (not an automated system or auto-hang-up as others have noted).
They had clearly noted my name from an earlier call that diverted to voicemail, and the caller kept asking "hello? Are you there? [my name]? Hello?..."

You're an absolute helmet mate. Its Sensis Yellow pages who are checking you're business details. All calls are made from an automated dailer so when a call isn't answered your number goes to the back of the queue. I know this because i work there.

    Good detective work Inspector Bellend!

You work there?  And you admit it.

Thank you for annoying thousands of people for no reason...,  and you trying to earn a dollar is not reason enough.  I earn many dollars without having to resort to hassling people that don't want a bar of you to start with.

You are pain in the ass like a botched colonoscopy

I'm a backpacker travelling Australia numb-nuts! Its a 2 month job just to pay my way and hardly a career move. As i stated before, its a computerised dailer which will keep calling a number until dispositioned by an agent and no-one is sat there manually dailing out to annoy you.

And believe it or not what we do actually helps a lot of businesses out.

Oh... and a massive congratulations for 'earning many dollars'....

I was unfortunately sold an N1 by this ridiculous company. After being promised the world I unfortunately find out that all it involves is a logo, linking your website (which can be done for free) and providing opening hours. Absolute shambles of a company. This person that sold to me was obviously one of these backpackers as his accent was either Irish or Scottish. These people need to realise they are playing with peoples incomes and businesses!!

I've had a series of these calls too. Thanks for explaining what they do (or don't ...).

'Get Real' - I have one problem with your post - you didn't go in hard enough with 'Ed' ..

I don't give a toss if you're a typical self important backpacker or a single mum with 5 kids. Get a proper job like busking with fire sticks or prostitution to support yourself - just don't expect to be welcomed as saviours because you're ringing strangers up.

I have answered these calls and talked graciously to the person on the other end more than once. But still the calls keep coming.
So no, we are not called persistently because we hang up. We are called because your company is very annoying.

I've received many calls from an 08 number and no one answers. Can they be reported to the Communications Ombudsman and be reported or fined for their annoying behaviour?

Like [***]. I have calls everyday similar to this and it doesn't ring for enough time for me to even see that my phone has rung... And it's from different numbers yet similar behavior. What should I do? Apart from blocking these calls from my iPhone (the numbers always different anyways..) Gosh.

This number rings every day & hangs up. Plus we also get all the marketing calls, & the "we only do it for the profit" charities.
The only solution is if all people in oz stop dealing with any company with overeas call centres. These companies are only interested in their own profits, & these call centres help their profits. But if all their customers left because of their call centres they would have no choice but to change. And give no money to phone charities, there are better ways to run real charities where the bosses don't all drive BMW's at mugs expense.

This phone number is calling every few days.  They hang up before you have a chance to answer and don't leave a message.  We do run a business so based on the other comments here they may be ringing re out website.  Thanks for the comments left guys.

just called Telstra and tried to stop this number from ringing me as it rings once/twice a day for one ring then hangs up... they were not interested in 'blocking' this number from calling me, was just told to download an app from the app store which I cant find, so a quick google and I found the article below..

    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/mobile-phon ... mber-on-iphone/

if you have an iphone running the latest iOS you can block numbers from your handset.

go to the number in recent calls list, hit the i next to the number and scroll down to the bottom and hit the block contact. DONE!
