Report a phone call from 08708707854 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- jenI also got a text to my ex husbands phone?????
But when I phoned I got a chap who was very understanding and I had concerns about fraud and he soon reassured me, he suggested I phoned MBNA direct to confirm RMA was a legit company. Then HE phoned me back to collect the payment. I found him very professional and sympathetic.....not pushy or annoying at all.
I suppose it depends who you get! - sarahGot a text saying "This is an important message - please call us now on 08708 707854 quoting reference 2431790".
- Caller: ?
- NikkiI've received 2 voicemail automated messages from them and a text - the thing is that this number is my work mobile, not my personal one, and no-one knows this work number!! Unless it was someone's old number before being allocated to my work contract, and it's relating to the previous person associated with this number. I don't have a Virgin card & I always pay my credit card. Thanks to this thread I'll just ignore it!
- John ScottThis number 08708707854 keeps calling me asking for soemone I don't know and leaving texts "this is an uregent message, please call back quoting reference number *******". I have repeatedly told them I don't know who they are talking about but they continue to call at all hours (morning and night). How do i stop these people other than change my business number :(
- Caller: RMA
- RBGI got a text message from a similar number asking to ring this number. The text included a reference number, but no information on who it was from. I rang and before I answered any security questions, I asked who they were and why they were calling. The person picking up explained they were calling on behalf of MBNA, trying to get me to pay my credit card via the phone. I informed them that I always do it online and would continue to do so. The person understood and was polite. I then realised I had missed one payment for 1 day and they call to make sure people don't stop paying.
- JuliaThe ubiquitous 'RMA': Rude & very dodgy. They weren't able to tell me who they are, why they were calling(!), or what 'RMA' stands for(- I can think of a few things..!)
Don't waste your time or money calling them - total COWBOYS. - IanI have had these threatening calls too.
I paid off half of my MBNA card in January. The lady at MBNA said that I was on a ridiculously high interest rate and that seeing as I had paid off half in one go they would review and bring down my interest rate.
I am still waiting.
I am behind by one month on my card and I reckon I have overpaid MBNA by £750 since January, so they owe me!!
I have tried to speak to MBNA but am put on hold for 30 minutes so I gave up. I have written and they suggest I phone them!
This RMA are chasing me and are telling me I am stupid for running up such a bill and if I was a honest bloke I would pay on time. I explained that MBNA owe me money so they should chase MBNA for my £750. They aren't intereste and have become more threatening and abusive. - sallyI have had exactly the same problem. I am only going to pay Virgin Credit card.
- Caller: RMA
- FredAmazingly RMA still operates because....They do so entirely legally. It may seem when you get slices of a bigger picture that some great wrong is occuring, but that's not the case.
Any company can have errors as well.
Speaking of which, if you get a call on your ex's mobile, mum's landline etc, it's cause one of the clients RMA operate on provide that no. that you either provided yourself when taking out a financial service, or used that no. to contact that client on.
Also the idea of "under hand" tactics for aquiring data is interesting. They ask you at the start of the call to provide it for security. Or they can just phone any old person up and tell them that you're in arrears if you like, and just not bother going through the Data protection act.
And no, like any financial institute they will not go in to details until you confirm your identity for those very reasons.
Some of you need to clearly do some homework. It's not hard, I did when I was dealing with them. - mhah - i have this company calling me a few times a week asking for someone else, i tell them they have the wrong number and to take me off their list but they keep calling, today they asked me who i am, which they've never done. So i said well who are you and what is it to do with, and he said he cannot give me that information. So i asked him why he thought he could ask who i was, i said please do not call again, but no doubt they will.
- AlanBeen getting calls from them for the past week or so and have spoken to at least 5 different people now from RMA and they say they are looking for a James Elton?
I told them to remove my numder 4 times now and still got another call this morning... AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!
They are a complete joke and clearly their staff are unhappy as I am yet to speak to one cheery person!
There will me a mobile phone shaped hole in the window at work if they call me again today!- Caller: RMA
- MarkUnbelievable! I am so glad that I have read these posts. I got a message off RMA today asking for somebody else that I do know. Suspicious, I entered the company and phone number into a search engine and arrived here.
I checked with the person in question (whom I trust unreservedly) and discovered that they are not now, and never have been, in debt with overdue payments on any credit cards. Neither are they in debt for any other reason at the minute.
Any more cals and I will take whatever action I can to stop these calls once and for all. What right have they got to bother me with something that is nothing to do with me or to discuss ANY details of personal debt (even the fact that a named person is in debt) with a third party. - Pat ShepherdI reported problems with this company making unsolicited calls and sending texts to my mobile in October 2008. it still contines 2 to 3 calls/texts each week. This is harrasment and misuse of telecommunications. Complaint to be made to Ofcom. I have had enough.
- chrisThese amateurs (factoring company using underhand and anonymous methods to indiscrimately pressure individuals who may or may not be legitimate targets) are a risk-averse means of credit control. Rather than take the costly but morally acceptable course of chasing debtors through direct credit control, companies such as Virgin Finance, MBNA and Virgin Active health clubs outsource to RMA.
Debtors generally find excuses and use avoidance techniques when struggling to meet commitments. Phone conversations are time consuming and unneccessary. The use of outsourced factoring exasperates this situation as the debtor is no longer dealing with the recognised counterparty. If companies were to instead provide easy means to:
- pay a missed direct debit electronically
- revise credit card continuous payment details (i.e. when card has expired)
- notify when a payment has been sent by other means (electronically)
Direct payment details are often impossible to find - companies instead try to 'force' direct debit agreements where the destination account is not stated.
Someone should write a thesis on the psychology involved here. - kevtherefI had these on a few months ago asking if I wanted to take out a loan, said they were acting on behalf of MBNA as well
- chrisFYI, since September 2005, RMA has been a trading name of NCO Inc, a Pennsylvania-based business process outsourcing group which acquired Risk Management Alternatives Inc (RMA) after the latter filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, leaving numerous creditors out of pocket (ironic, huh?)
RMA Inc had a subsidiary, RMA International Limited, based in Preston, UK. NCO now trade in the UK from the same premises (not to be confused with another RMA International, an IT services company trading from Brighton).
Both NCO and RMA have and had an abysmal track record for abusive and intrusive infringements, contravening the Consumer Credit Act and the Data Protection Act. Please make written complaints to your local Trading Standards, FSA, BBC Watchdog etc.

- prasherTell them you are dealing directly with xxx and after that don't take any calls from them. Having been bitten once. Card used in australia within days of someone calling me to confirm details puporting to help me in the UK. They are pain but you are not obliged to answer your phone. I answer it if I am bored and need to talk to someone but I refuse to give any personal details. Sometimes they ask me to confirm my tel number. 'Same as what you dialled...'
- Bish Bash BoshAbsolutely love this stuff guys. nothing better than reading a load of drivel written by debt ridden know it alls. get real and pay up. also read your agreements with creditors before branding their tactics 'underhand', after all you signed up to them in the first place.
