I bought a smart pen from an advert in the caravan club magazine and was later rung and offered a catalogue which I assumed was for other offers. However it turned out to be the "free and easy Lifestyle" holiday club with a 30 day free trial. on reading the small print I discovered the scam and have cancelled the trial and my credit card. If you are contacted please do the same.

    Hi,
Can I ask how you cancelled the trial?  I cannot locate an email address for them.  I guess we have to phone Spain??
    Thank you.

Complain to your bank or credit card company. How did they obtain your details? I feel you may well find it stems from Essex? Have you made a purchase, maybe online, from there?

My name is John. I'm a Counter Fraud Specialist. My partner bought items from spacebags. The next thing we received a phone call from Free and Easy doing and saying what you have all said.

The main thing is to inform your bank, from that point you should be protected. Cut all contact, don't call them (because you will be charged) keep your bank informed and keep checking your account.

You can alos report them to:

    National Fraud Authority

    http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/report_fraud

    The UK's Fraud Prevention Service

    http://www.cifas.org.uk/

    Companies Investigation Branch

    enquiry@cib.gsi.gov.uk

    Office of Fair Trading

    http://www.oft.gov.uk/OFTwork/ConsumerProtect ... /report-a-scam/

The main thing is to report the fraud / scam and don't stress about it. They have no legal claim.

Received an unsolicited letter and brochure today. As I know we have not been in contact with them I immediately 'phoned the number and cancelled the membership. When I asked where they got my card details they denied having them but I have also notified my bank who will monitor my account

I also received letter and brochure today. Contacted watchdog. Told police and my bank. Police suggested not to ring because they recently had a scam where the number rang went somewhere else and they pick up all your phone call details aswell. Tried to stop them on my credit card but because they will deduct an annual fee (a subscription) they can't stop it! I will have to claim it back!

Hi Judy, phone the number it is ok. It goes through to thier call centre in Devon they will cancel and refund your money.
The scam is that they hope people wont relise money has gone from there cards, but to try and stay 'legal' they  usually refund quite quickly. And this also covers them if there 'investigated' by any trading standards.

I bought Spacebags and was later rung and offered what I thought was a catalogue of similar goods. It arrived today and turned out to be a holiday club brochure from "Free&Easy Lifestyle". I've rung and cancelled the "membership", and was assured that they don't have access to my card details, so fingers crossed that no money goes out of my account. I've contacted my bank so if it is taken, it's on record that I've cancelled the membership and they will have acted illegally.

Many thanks John. I too got a message from a woman purporting to be from Spacebags offering a free catalogue. I will take your good advice and inform my bank.
