I've spoken with Sky, who provide my landline calls, after ringing this number back before checking here (doh). I have only been charged the 10p connection charge, so hopefully this helps set some peoples minds at rest who also rang it back

Received call from this number, call rang off after 2 seconds.  Suspected a scam and found reference on this website via google.  Glad I didn't call it !!!

ian, call OFCOM and add to the complaint - hopefull they'll have enough people toegether soon to name and shame them.

Tell the operator your experience and that there is no information on what company the number is calling from - if they get enough complaints then they can start to trace it and hopefully shut it down.

Oh god, I just got a call from 0871 6654044 but no one was on the other end.  I rang back and it said "please enter your UK or international destination number".  Im scared im going to get a hefty bill now.  Has anyone had a bill yet who has received/called back this number?

I got the call as well and I picked up it within 2 seconds. I think I've wasted them some money!! BTW, I use a virgin PAYG. Few people have my number.

ok, I got the same number calling me. Vodafone have looked at my bill and so far I have'nt any charges. Also given me the number for Phone Preference Service who are govt service who monitor numbers like these. local call number 08450700707 or PPSonline.org.uk

but i've been getting a lot of calls lately.. from random numbers
and witheld numbers, where when you pick up, theres just breathing..

I found out that the number belong to a company called Cheers International, who then rent the numbers out to various companies. They said as they are the Network Operator for these numbers they can investigate any suspected misuse on these numbers.

I stipulated to them that I wanted my number taken off their system, and they said whilst they don't hold data for all service providers that use their numbers, they can inform the providers and enforce where possible to take withdraw my number from any data list. They only have the power to do this with any numbers that they own.

had a missed call because my phone was on silent. no message left. (I'm on the Virgin network)

Also had a call from this number, 08716654044. Don't know who from as wasn't in when it rang but not tempted to call back, thankfully, as it was on my spare phone (a cheap and cheerfull PAYG) with a brand new sim that has never been used yet as it is only for emergencies. My number is on Virgin as well though.

i just got the 0871 number too
rang back twice to check i wasnt hearing things about a pound a call because i checked me fone balance.

now these things happen for a reason,so wat forms have i filled out in the past 3 weeks
well dixons online passed my number to their courier firm
and i applied for an indian visa which got my mobile number

so thats it has to be one of those two i think its the latter

I just had a call from this number. I was away from my phone and missed the call, My colleague said it only rang once...

After seeing these comments i won't be calling them back.

missed call from the number. Called back and got a message promptoing me to enter and international code.

got a call this evening from this number,  2 rings only,   I NEVER ring numbers I dont have in my address book

i can't believe this rip-off can exist. We disclose our numbers by applying for jobs, credit cards etc. The details beeing sold off, then we receiving s.. texts and phone calls cost GBP 1 each of them.

This  is still going on, my mobile rang (2 rings) and then hung up, I will not be calling back.  I am on O2.
