I'm in Perth, West Australia. The time is 15th July , 1300h. I Just got an unsolicited call from a guy with Indian accent claiming to be from microsoft help desk/service centre in Adelaide.  (later also claiming to be "Tom Smith" with call back number 0872000365) asking me to left click on the windows start icon and then go to security tabs... before later asking me to start internet & browser and type in "www . logmein123 . com". Needless to say, i then made up some BS about being busy and hence asked his name & number etc...so i could call him back.

Even i had a similar call and a guy called Hari Decrz Introduced himself, saying he is a representative of 365 PC Support...He kept talking and talking...finally i had to be saying please dont trouble again....

i had this guy hassling my 73 YO mother. had her install from logmein.com and took control of her computer. he said he was calling from microsoft, and that he had detected viruses on her computer, and wanted her to pay for ongoing security support. he asked for her credit card details, and at this point she balked. obviously this guy (he called himself "shane" but it's obviously the same indian guy) is findable, so why haven't the police been to visit him with bit effoff belting sticks?

also, why is there no call type here for FRAUD?

Hi - August 20th.  I have just received the same call from someone with an Indian accent.  He gave me to understand he was from the Microsoft Help Desk and they were aware I kept getting Error messages and that I had a virus.  It was difficult to understand all he was saying.  I asked him how did I know he was legit and he gave me the phone number.  Anyway I told him I don't have a landline in my study so he would have to call me back on my mobile.  Silly me, I gave him my mobile number but he hasn't called back.  I have my name on the Do Not Call Register so he is breaking some law or other.  Who do we report him to?

I had the same experience yesterday evening, Sept 2nd.  He was 'so worried' about my computer that he put his supervisor on!!  She was the one who gave me the number to call back on because I wouldn't go on-line for her.  I called Microsoft help desk instead and they knew nothing about it - of course.

Call from 365 support - same thing, from Microsoft with dire warnings  of viruses that my commercial virus software could not detect. Asked her to email our security group the instructions to check for these 'super' viruses... as expected she could only give the instructions personally. I found using an Indian accent and mumbling did the trick!
Said she was in Adelaide and gave 0872000365 as her number.

yes i too had these people ring and told me to check my computer as it was about to crash .They said that they were calling all windows users . They asked me to click start then  click my computer etc and they were so concerned about my computer that i also got put onto the lady supervisor who introduced hersellf as Jenny.They gave the phone number 08 72000365 to me as i said i would need to ring back and the company name as 365 PC Support , they also called themselves Windows Global Support. When i didn't ring back they rang me again and i said that i couldn't sort this right now so she hung up on me , previous to this i have had many hang up phone calls over the past two weeks.

I had the same guy today....same story. I rang Microsoft and they said that they are aware of this hoax caller (as we all worked out it was suss anyway) and that Microsoft do not call out, they only receive calls and lucky we didn't do what they said!!!! This "indian" claimed to be a "Ryan Williams" and gave me a call back number of 0872000365
I feel sorry for the people who get done over by them!

Same here. Called today by a lady (Daisy) with an Asian accent who said she was from Computer Support and was contacting me urgently as a virus was spreading through all the Microsoft computers in Australia. I listened to her spiel because I was suss on her from the start and wanted to see where it was going until she wanted me to go to my start menu. When I told her her story didn't sound right and I was going to hang up she offered for me to call 08 7200 0365 and ask for Daisy to confirm her authenticity. Interestingly her incoming call showed up as overseas on my caller ID.

Same story today.  my wife got the call.  very urgent, just follow the instructions.  they show you the event viewer which shows a number of alerts - of course there are always alerts of some type or another in the event viewer!  this is normal.  Steve Wilson was the man's name - same phone number and his supervisor was Albert Wilson.  who would guess - two indian sounding gents, and they are brothers to boot.  avoid like the plague.

Same story today, only I fell for it.  I was suspicious but thought of the damage to my computer if I didn't rectify the possible damage caused by malware.  Same name  - Steve Wilson, same number.  What to do now???  I've been to the bank & sought advice.  Any ideas???

i to today 29/10/2010 had the same call stating she was from microsoft her name was pamela with indian accent and worker id A408 they to took over my computer and tryed to tell me i had bad malicious data on my computer then trying to get me to pay 300 to put some anti virus software to protect me on the comp when i told here i had no credit card and some of us aussies are poor she started to get really revved up as to say i didnt pay she was getting angry and started demand things put in the end i had a suspicion they where a hoax trying to get money but will be reporting it to the cops or someone to sort this out

Similar story happened to me. An Indian-accented guy confused my Mum (who's not that computer savvy) so she put me on, and he started rambling about how there might be infections on my computer (through some holes in the Windows Operating System). I was pretty resistant to the idea, as they were cold calling me at 8.30pm, but thought I'd see it through. He took me to the My Computer window, and then into computer management - I made sure I was off-line while speaking with him. As I started scrolling down Event Viewer - Application box he asked me to count how many warning signs were appearing.  Every time I told him a new number he kept exclaiming Oh God as if something terrible was happening.  It made me extremely suspicious as I doubt any true / real employee of Windows/Microsoft would try to scare a customer that way.  Then I started questioning his intentions & why these huge massive problems were not in the media.  He immediately transferred me to his "supervisor" - also an Indian-accented guy who explained that Windows/Microsoft did not want to scare customers which I again thought was an odd theory.  I sat through about 5 more minutes of theorising before requesting a contact phone number because the whole thing felt odd.  We hung up & then I right clicked one of the warnings in the event history which told me it was merely a logging off error.  Then I found this site - so going to trust my instincts from now on!

How very familiar!!  Same thing here.  Yesterday a call from an Indian guy - later to be transferred to a supervisor Ann (Indian) when we became suspicious.   The guy said he was from Windows - click on Start, Security tabs then to internet browser and type in www.logmein123.   Then after taking over my computer and software supposedly pointing out errors and that my computer was going to crash then wanted my credit card No.    I said we would deposit money into their bank a/c.  Then they kept arguing.  I became quite heated, I was told I was very rude and that the call was being taped.   I said I hoped it was.  (another sus. point - I have always been asked for permission for my calls to be taped).
Eventually after two hours (can you believe it - they were persistent) we said we would make enquiries and ring them back tomorrow and they gave us that number 0872000365.   She almost shouted at us "why not today".   We rang our son who put us on to this website.   Thank goodness we didn't fall-but very close. We are both oldies in our 70's and not very computer literate.   The guy even said he could understand us being wary about giving our credit no. but it would be safe with them  Yeah!!!!!!!

i had the same call (from someone with an indian accent) he claims his name was steve wilson also from adelaide about corrupt windows support. we asked for their contact info and it was the number 08 72000365. im also in Perth and its 3:45pm 18/12/2010

I got a call from a lady, with an Indian accent named "Michelle", saying she worked for windows maintenance dept.  She said they were doing a routine check on all windows programs because there was a virus that was destroying programs on the computer.  She asked me to look if there was an information error report, when it listed more than 20 errors she said this is catastrophic we need to repair it immediately I will get the manager.  The "manager" them asked me to go to the "run" program and wanted to know codes but I would not give them do him, I told him my brother-in-law was in IT and would fix the problem.  He them became agreesive saying this is urgent and your computer programs could be destroyed within a day if it did not get fixed immediately.  When I asked for the phone number saying I would call him back, he said the number so quickly I could not write it down.  I asked again and then googled windows maintenece, this number did not appear.  I then googled this number to find that the same thing had happened to someone else.

I have a similar story of computer going to crash etc. Again it was 'Michelle' with Indian accent. Only this time she was working for 365 PC Support. When I asked where they were located she wouldn't give me a phone number but said they were at 91 King William Street, Adelaide. Strange they weren't in the phone book.

I rang Adelaide Fraud Squad and was assured that it was a crime group operating from India but pretending to be in Adelaide and using phone numbers that look like ours. The detective told me to ignore them.

I too just received a call from this number, a guy purporting to be a Ryan Williams (indian accent) stated he was associated with Microsoft and they had completed a scan of all computers in my area.  He stated my computer had been infected with viruses and unfriendly files.  I took the abovementioned phone number and rang back.  The person answering sounded evasive but evenutally connected me with "Ryan" I asked if there would be a charge for his services and he told me only when my computer is connected with their maintenance department.  I kindly refused any further assistance and hung up!

I have just had a call from this number said they were in Adelaide at 9 Kingwilliam Rd Adelaide, Wespac building, and wanted info about my computer - who are they? he was a very forceful man called Kevin Smith
