Just got a call (3.55 PM on 9 Sep) from "Microsoft Windows Operating System" claiming I had a problem on my computer. I knew straight away it was a scam, so I said I had two computers and could they identify which one it was. They just went around and around the issue. Eventually I said I wanted their number so I could call back as I was busy. The number they gave me was as above: 0872000407.

I just got a call from that number too. I knew it was a scam and did pretty much what Lillie did but what they didn't know was that most of my computers are Mac so when I "followed" her instructions, I was like yeah sorry I have a Mac so it's not going to work and then she hung up on me... She has an Indian accent and is calling from the "Adelaide" office. I tried calling the number she called me off but it rang and then when picked up there was nothing on the other line?

Tele call from Sharon. My internet service provider through Microsoft identified a problem with my computer. I said I was busy could I ring her back and she gave me this number. I rang back and spoke to Sharon. She went through her speel, again and wanted me to turn on the computer, when I asked if this was going to cost me anything to fix she hung up. As this a genuine Adelaide number why cant somebody do something about it. I reported to Scamwatch, obviously nobody wants to do anything about it and they obviously don't care.

I just got a call (3:40pm 9/11/11) from the number 0872000407 and they said i had a problem with my computer too. I'm under 18 and was home alone at the time so i got really creeped out about what i was doing. He told me to do all this stuff that lead me to a place where it showed i had many errors and yellow triangles. He asked if i was athorised to do anything, but becasue i was under 18 he said i was not. He asked me to tell my dad to call 0872000407 and his name is PAUL WILSON. I went online to search the number and came up with this site. I then followed Eva's link to the microsoft website and called them. it is a scam and now i know, but it still scared me half to death.

I received a call from Christine Davis telling me that I had a problem with my computer.  I told her I had no computer.  She said she could not help me.  I told her all I had was a laptop.  This got her interested again and off she went with her crap call.  I was surprised that she gave me her name, phone number and company name.  Thanks for the warnings about this type of scam.

An Indian guy, very persistent, saying my computer had reported error messages to Microsoft.  He would guide me thru how to fix it.  What BS.  Kept him talking for about 10-12 minutes - wasted his time and hope it cost him money too.  Gave me the Adelaide number 08 7200 0407 but didn't try it. Also the website www.virtualITsupport.com but not game to try it either.  A complete scam.

Just had a call too from Andrew and asked for his phone number and company name so I could check it all out before I did anything.  He gave me the company name First PC Solutions and asked me to call back ASAP.  I think Andrew may be waiting along time

Ray from this number phoned my 85 year old mother and gave her the spiel about her computer having problems.  Now my mother isn't that computer savvy and fell for it, until he started demanding money.  Stupid Ray spent 2 hours trying to get my Mum to part with a few hundred dollars.  Note to Ray: Pensioners don't have a lot of money to splash around and will want to check with someone else before they hand over their cash.  [***] - leave people alone!!!

Got a call just now from a lady with a very strong Indian accent suggesting that my home computer has been generating error messages to their central maintenance computer system in Adelaide, and would need repair works to be done. She claims she is calling from a company with the name First PC Solutions, and her phone no. is 08-7240 7000. I asked how would they know I had a computer at home, she just said my computer is using the updated version Window, but just couldn't say which exactly.... So, I asked her if this is a scam, and I would call the police, she immediately hang up the phone.... I don't think I will call her number toverify any thing, for sure this is a scam.... I wonder if the ACCC would do anything about this so-called computer company. For your information, I had already reeived more than 10 similar calls for the past couple of years, and it's getting to annoy me....

My husband got a call from "First P C Solutions' - I wasn't there - so he got caught up in their scam.
'James'  was the guy he spoke to.Ph No. 09 8890239.  -   I phoned  the number back from work next day. Ended up with a guy saying he was in Canada.  All very dodgy.   Have since changed passwords - and informed our banks to moniter our  internet transactions.  Didn't give over any money - ( thank god he's a Scotsman).  But very un nerving.

We are in Auckland, New Zealand - so the callback is different. - But definately the same scam.

So did I. I have got the same call from First PC Solution yesterday who claims they are the Microsoft authorised firm responsible for fixing infected pc. Picked up a few dodgy irregularities from the phone conversation, first of which is the person's name. PAUL WILSON. Heard someone in the forum also mentioned this name. Anyways, the dodgy part is that the caller is obviously an Indian. PAUL WILSON?? I mean come on...who is gona fall from that. Regardless, said he was calling from Wellington and gave the exact same number for me to contact as I told him I wouldnt do a thing without any background check. Clearly it is a SCAM! What a loser.

interesting update for all these compains. In New York, my father recieved a call. Unlike evebrody else he thought it was real though. So im not really sure what went on, but perhaps these people actually had CONTROL of his computer screen he said.....dragging the curers around all such and so. That really scared me. Anyways he said he even gave them his MAC password! So some people have said that they cant do anything with mac computers and i really have no idea. Im just a peace loving hippy. I have been to india and highly respect their spiritual culture and nature. Its a shame what globalism, capitalism, and this unsustainable competitiveness over finite resources has brought people to do. gaia bless

To be on the safe side it might be a good idea to get his computer checked out locally as these rats can install spyware/malware. I don't know about Macs either but your local computer ace should be able to put you straight.

I just got a call from First PC Solution.  I stayed on the line too long and still do not understand their

reason for calling me.  I did not agree to purchase their program. After reading all of these reports I am glad I did not buy at this time. A person from India kept me on the phone for over a hour. At this time I feel that I provided him with too much information. I hope I do not have any problems with my computer after the phone call.  I will wait and decide if I should call them later.

The object of this scam is to gain remote access to your computer.  If they get it they will install spyware/malware to steal personal information, bank details, passwords etc.  The money they ask for to fix the non-existent problems can just be a sideline.  Neither Mirosoft, nor its partners would ever 'phone you.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules.  No-one who 'phones knows anything about your computer.  They rely on scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge.  If you gave them remote access it might be worthwhile to get your computer checked out locally.  If you decide to change passwords etc., do it from another computer if yours has not been checked out.  As for ringing them back, that would not be a good idea.  If the number is not fake, via Skype or VOIP, then it will be overseas.
