I have been recieving call from an unknown number on mobile and calling person asks Date of birth and address and without it does not want to proceed further.
When i asked them the number to call back they gave me the number 1300662061.
After calling this number it just does not get answered i think it is fake company.

I have been recieving two calls from an unknown number, first calling person asks my date of birth and address, I just stop it.
Second call I asked the lady what is her company she told me CMA and gives me the number 1300662061 to call her back.

Driving me crazy!!!! - can't understnd them when they do leave a msg only got CMS and the ret number today - got to the point my phone is perm on silent.

Its a credit agency chasing money you owe.

Get a call from a blocked number claiming to be representing Optus on an urgent business matter. When I told them I have never had an Optus account I got told I would get a text message with a return number. I got a text from 0437301658 asking to call Jonny on 1300662061 with a reference number also.

Nan received a call from 1300662061 an Indian speaking man with a name of Roy asked for me, he rang back about 2-3 days after and left this no. with a reference no. as well.  I rang back and an Indian speaking man answered with the name of Marshall asked the spelling of my first and last names, date of birth.  He stated that he worked for Charter Mercantile Agency and was recovering s debt for Optus.  This is a scam!!!  Do not give out any information.

I just received a call from a blocked number, I dont answer blocked numbers, a message was left to call CMA on 1300662061 with a reference number, they said it was an urgent business matter. I called back an Indian woman answered I gave her the reference number, I asked who and what they do ? no reply, she then told me my name was Troy, I said no, she then said well what is your name and date of birth.
I told her no way she then hung the phone up....Scammers from India.

Received a missed call from an unknown number then got a text message asking me to call1300662061 and quote a reference number? who the hell is running this scan operation. I feel bad for all the people who fall for it and provide their details. These people get our information off the internet.

A few days ago i recieved a text message asking me to call that number and quote a reference number. I never called. Then this morning my phone rang once on private then they hung up then one min later i recieved another txt message saying the same thing, I dont want to call them back as they have nto given me ANY info of them at all and am scared it is a scam which from all comments above saying that it prob is  =s

same as above asking for D.O.B and to confirm my name etc.

I have received 2 calls from the same number, 1300 662 061, in the last 2 weeks. They leave a message with my receptionist saying to call back some person from CMA regarding my Optus account and to give them a reference number. I knew it was a scam because all my bills are paid via direct debit and also when I called Optus, they said my account is perfect and no called me otherwise it would be on their system. I didn't bother calling them back. What for? So they can scam me!

Then someone called today, 5.8.2010. The message was from Marion from 2Macma saying to call back on 1300 662 061 with another reference number.

Please do not talk to these people or give them your bank details, address, name etc.

Yes I got the same phone call just the other day from a Roy, of Chartered Mercantile Agency, asking for confirmation of address of one of my children.  He had an address and wanted to make contact.  When I tried to call them back on 1300 662 061, it is a fake number.  The call was from an Indian.

This is not a scam as calls are placed from an Aussie collection agency having offshore location in India. I also had same issue as it throws doubt around when DOB is being asked. Just for once I confirmed my DOB and discovered that its in relation to one of my o/s debt....Its due to privacy reasons, they are trying to confirm the date of birth of customers..So i think you guys have mistaken it as spam..Cheers

It's not spam. They're optus's debt collection agency. & yeah, the call centre is set up in India. But the money you pay to them goes into Optus's debit account (They tell you this when you call them, which nobody has found out because you're all obviously severely paranoid) & you can check that the details match by looking at the account details on the back of your phone bill. Did you guys stop opening your mail from Optus because they kept sending out over due notices? Because they send out several letters stating that they will be handing the account over to the CMA, & not only will you have to pay the outstanding bill, but you will have to pay the rest of your plan out plus however much it costs them to get the CMA involved. If you don't pay it, they will take you to court. Have you people never heard of google? Look up Charter Mercantile Agency. Ta dahhhh! So whoever happens upon this next, they AREN'T scammers! Call them & arrange a payment plan or it will screw up your credit rating!

My Australian phone received 11 missed calls from unknown number and one is from +61280054278. (not my friend number at all) All my friend and organization I need to contact have my overseas number.

Additionally,  As you see, these calls are not from India.  it is from Australia.

I called to this number, It went Vodafone message bank.
I did not leave message. I hung up immediately.

If it is truly from Optus debt collector,  why can't they say so?

Would it be rude not o tell who they are ?

Best things to do is checking up with optus.  If it is true, they have obligation to tell the truth and take responsibility for making us confused and scared.

If what you say is true...how come they contact me, have never done business with or used Optus.

I got a call from private number, ignored it of course. Text message with my name included, asking me to call 1300662061 with reference number xxxxxx.

Something to do with an Optus account, but I'm not an Optus customer! HAHA fools

These ppl - if they really are commercial agents - are the very worst I have ever encountered.  They bothered me and my family about money owed to Optus by someone else altogether.

I successfully complained to Queensland Consumer Affairs.  The investogator is Camerson Hargrave in the Dept of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.
