8z pty ltd is obviously a dishonest company that is running a scam using optus mobile as its billing engin.

We have been billed $4-6 multiple times per day, because the application downloaded onto an iphone automaticalls initiates a phone call to 1300886534. The calls are generated without my knoledge at obscure times (such as 2am). Times when most people are not awake to stop activity.

No service is provided for the fee ... It is an automated dialer.

Optus is guilty of associating with such a scam.

8z pty ltd is plain criminal.

    Hi P Scanlan,

I too have lost most of my prepaid credit for each of the last 3 months to this number starting on the 24/09 and happening regularly every time I recharge. I get nothing coming through on my phone, yet the charge comes of my prepaid account. I get slammed with $4.50 every time it comes through and it has now cost me about $80 in lost credit, and Telstra, being the pricks that they are, will not reimburse me as it is nothing to do with them - thus effectively conspiring to fraudulent activity.

I need your help - how can you stop this coming off your account ? How can you block it ?

Can we recover the cost ?

Cheers for bringing this to our attention.

These people are scammers and should be reported, I never subscribed and they are 3rd party subscriptions, so I am told. Optus have stopped any further people doing this on my mobile and credited me back my money. Thanks Optus

The message on the net (24/02/12) informed me that I had won an iphone.

I entered my cell phone number expecting a call but instead received a suspicious looking sms stating something about a $15.00 joining fee.

I then rang 1300886534 and got an answering machine which asked me if I wanted to unsubscribe, which I did.  If I hear from them again the police will be informed.

Just found out I have $72 outstanding on my account that I was supposed to pay $10 per month for. This was incurred by receiving 2 x messages per day from this number.  I replied 'stop' numerous times but they continued to call.  Will try and recoup this money back - not sure how yet - will try and contact the Company direct.

Firstly contact your phone provider and tell what has happened.  This happened to me and I contacted Telstra today and they evenutally credited my account part of the money. I have now had PSMS service barred on my phone at my request as well as they unsubscribed to this company for me.  As Telstra could not guarantee that this will stop the SMS's they said if it happens again they will credit me any money that is charged (make sure you get a ref. no. for you complaint).   At least if it happens again I will be credited any money that is charged against my account.  Then report this company 8Z pty ltd to the Telecommunication Ombudsman in your state. They have to be stopped as they are stealing money.

    Hello Roz,
Thank you for your words of advice.  My service provider Telstra told me to go to 8Z and get them to refund the money charged for their numerous text messages at $5.00 each probably up to $100 now.
They told me they would only unsubscribe me with no refund so I went to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman or TIO who have been wonderful.  They lodged my complaint and sent a request to my provider demanding a refund of the charges.
I did tick some boxes in reply to a notice that I could win an IPad but stopped filling out the questions when it got complex but evidently it was too late and I had no way of knowing the texts were from them. I said to the lady at 8Z that I would have to be crazy to agree to pay $5.00 a text for as many as they like to throw at me.  Any way good luck out there in the mad world of IT to all those who fall for their cheap tricks, or should I say expensive tricks.

Son was Scammed replies to rose
I just seen my sons bill and he too was scammed by this disgusting company of $49. Rang my provider and she will look into it but was not sure whether Optus will refund the money - not good enough I think. Rang the company twice and got there message bank twice to leave your number they are gutless if they can't answer the calls but they most certainly can charge you though. These people really should be stopped.

8Z Pty Ltd , operator of the Trivia Club scam, is a fully owned subsidiary of  an Australian publicly listed company Mobile Embrace Ltd.  Mobile Embrace produces the scammer software and lots of other aps at its software development branch Ring Ring Studios, in Wooloomoolo, Sydney.
The Chief Executive and majority shareholder  of Mobile Embrace is Christopher Thorpe, yacht owner and member of the elite Midde Harbour Yacht Club. He proudly lists amongst his achievements being the first to launch 1900 premium services ( that is ,what you got scammed by)
and premium chat services, on his Linkedin page.

Insist on getting a FULL REFUND from your phone company - they also profit from 1900 services, and know exactly what is going on, even if the customer service employee on the phone tries to blame you or imply that you must have done something wrong to have "subscribed" to a 1900 service in the first place - that is what they are trained to say.

Report what has happened to you to the Australian Stock Exchange since this unethical means of doing business could have the company delisted from the stock exchange -it is in breach of its own ethical standards.

Call or write to Andrew Westmorland at the New Communicatins Issues and Standards Department of ACMA, 360 Elizabeth St Melbourne 3000
Melbourne office to report your experience.

Telstra and Optus both know about this scam, they just go along because they get a cut. Most people give up and just get charged. This a great scam, making millions for Mobile Active, this is a start for a new wave technology crime that the Government and Telcos are too slow to stop.

    moahahaha!
