(201) 283-9684 called & the recording just says that the FBI reports that there is a break in every I don't know how many minutes so they want to install a new security system & place a sign in your yard...

Robo Spam (and quite probably Scam) telemarketer phone call.  Called my work phone no less!  They supposedly want to place a sign in my front yard (at no cost to me! ~ Yeah right.) in exchange to install a burglar alarm system.  This is a registered land-line out of Kearny, NJ.  According to phone records, the owner has had this number since 1998.

They called my SKYPE number, so fortunately, I can block it. I have a Texas number for Skype, but I live in Australia.

I'm from oklahoma and this number had called almost everyone I know within the past week! I knew I was going to be thier next victim... Soon enough it finally called me about 15 minutes ago. Highly annoying!

Yeah don't bother answering it. I never knew anyone with a 201 area code so I left it be.

I've never seen this number before, but i was just called twice in the last hour. I live in West Virginia, and I'm on the national do not call list.

I just got a call from this number.  I live in Texas and am on the Do Not Call registry, which obviously is not as effective as one was led to believe.

All the Do Not Call registry does is to establish a system of fines, etc., for marketers who are in violation. You have to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission to get anything done about those violations. Here is a link to their website:

These douche canoes just called me.  It's an automated telemarketer from New Jersey trying to sell a bogus alarm system by starting their schpiel with "The FBI Reports..." in order to get you to listen to their scare tactics.

Block the number and go about your life, happily free from another NJ scam artist.

Calling them back puts you into a laughable automated answering system that actually has options (which may or may not work) to be placed on their 'do not call' list, or, option #4, to 'contact the regulatory agency regarding our marketing practices.'  What a brilliant way to head off complaints -- to pretend to BE the complaint department!

Seriously, just block the number;  It's easier and gives them no feedback with which to harrass you in the future, which is what they will do if you select ANY of the "options" in the answer menu.

got a call from this number at 3:45pm. I didn't answer. But I'm sure it would have been the recording you all seem to mention. Yes, it was identified as a number from Kearny, NJ.
