Got a call from this number on my cell.  An automated voice recording stated it was Verizon contacting me because I had an outstanding balance of several hundred dollars on my cell phone and because I am such a valued customer and they are soooo concerned they wanted to give me an opportunity to resolve this debt.  Aww...who knew they cared so much.  
The automated message then proceeded to ask for immediate payment and directed me to select the proper prompts to make a payment over the phone.

The first indication that this was a phishing scam was that I knew my account was paid in full and up to date.

BEWARE this is NOT VERIZON. They are SCAMMERS trying to get your $$$$$$$$$$.  BEWARE!!!!

This number is scam.

This is telephone fraud.  If you have received a call from these people, please enter a complaint with the FTC.gov

Called from Verizon yet not Verizon on this number -- a scammer.  

Do yourself a favor and block the number.

Remember, with any phone or email calls from Carrier or Cedit Card, etc. STOP, HANG UP, BLOCK YOUR NUMBER, and then always call them right back to find out if they are REAL.  

Same with online. Don't respond to that email...go directly to the site in question and sign into your account to see if there is indeed the same "warning" note, etc. posted to your account.  

99.99% of the time you'll find that the call, webpage, or whatever, is a fraudulent pitch, and set up to screw you.  Calling the company back is a fool-proof way to find out if  your carrier, bank, etc, did, or did not call you.

Be smart and always know that when a stranger is interested in you, it's because of what you can do for them, or what they can get from you -- legally, or illegally.   Eyes open, and question, question, question who is coming at you, and for what.

What a pain in the ass these people are.  They leave no message and just continue to call.

got a message they were verizon & it was important to call them.  They keep calling & even sent me a text message to call with my cell #.  No live people on the phone just a machine.

Same here. My Verizon account is current and paid and the recorded message said I owed Verizon over $400.  I called Verizon to check on my account and everything was fine, so I reported the situation to them.

Got call this a.m. did not answer but read about this. Thanks for the heads up

how did they even get our cell phone numbers....Im having them blocked!
