I got a call from 2020113341. caller ID unknown. Caller stated his name was Christian and he was calling from Windows Operation Systems and that my computer was giving them red lights. When asked for a number to check them out they hung up.

have received calls from this number. Said he was Peter fro windows.Sounds like Peter from India and he hung up when I asked questions.

Below is a copy n paste from another forum explaining the scam:-

I get these phone calls about one a week. Last time, I was ready for them: I had a machine set up with a clean XP installation, so I played dumb to see what they would do.

They pose as "Windows Support Centre", or suchlike, and say that they've been receiving reports from your computer that there's a problem. You'll probably be asked how old the machine is - however old it is, seemingly, you'll be told that the warranty on your Windows software has expired, or that you should have taken one out when you bought it. Then, you'll be talked though opening something called the Event Viewer, and shown a screen that contains a number of warnings and errors. They will tell you that this is serious, even to the extent that it's causing problems that might force your ISP to cut your connection and/or inform the police.

Let's stop here and make two points:

1. There may well be something called a "Windows warranty". However, I have been a Microsoft Partner for nearly a decade, and I've never heard of such a thing. I think we can assume that if such a thing existed, Microsoft would be sending me lots of information on how I can make money selling it. They haven't, because there isn't.

2. I've never seen an Event Viewer that didn't have warnings and errors, and I've been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer since 1999. Its function is to keep a record of everything that happens to the operating system so that people like me can find out what's happening if something has gone wrong. Most of the time, though, there's nothing to be alarmed about - in my case, most of the warnings were due to a printer not being found on the network because I'd switched it off.

OK, so the next stage is that you get passed to the "Technical Department". This is where it got interesting: I was told that a six digit support number was being generated so that my problem could be resolved, and I was directed to a website called logmein123, where I could enter this number. Now, this is a common tool used by people like me to fix machines over the network - clients call me with a problem, I can connect to the machine and show them what to do without having to leave my office. In this case, they were going to "fix" my machine. So I let them in. At this point, we will pause for a warning:

WARNING: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME ON YOUR MACHINE. I WAS GIVING THIS GUY COMPLETE ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER. HE COULD DO ANYTHING HE LIKED, TRANSFER FILES TO INSPECT AT LEISURE, ETC. I WAS USING A MACHINE WITH NOTHING ON IT BUT THE OPERATING SYSTEM. REPEAT: DO NOT LET ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW AND TRUST ONTO YOUR SYSTEM IN THIS WAY.

The first thing was that as soon as he connected, I could see the IP address he was connecting from, and I was able to trace this back to a company name, and trace the company back to its offices in Mumbai. While I was doing this (on another machine), I was watching a rather nasty piece of software being uploaded to my machine and installed. A bit of fiddling around, and I was asked to try running a few programs. Lo and behold, they all crashed with frightening looking error messages - remember, this was a machine that was working perfectly a few minutes before. This was explained as a consequence of the problems that I was having before, and that the diagnostic program they were running was now blocking programs that could get me into trouble.

This was the point at which I was asked for money - they started at £100 to fix the problem I already had, with an additional £80 for a simple one year warranty to protect me in the future, or if I preferred, I could give them £299 for an all-in package including fix, anti-virus software and a five year warranty. Visa and Mastercard accepted. If I didn't want to go ahead, then I wouldn't be able to do anything with it until it was fixed.

At this point I let him know what I was doing, complete with telling him the name and address of the company he was working for. I expected him to hang up on me, but he decided to argue with me, at one point telling me that I wasn't an MCSE and I didn't know what I was talking about. In the end, I just told him that if he had been in this country, he could expect to be arrested, and hung up on him.

So, in summary, I wasted my time in this way so you don't have to. If these pirates call you, don't say a word. Just put the phone down.

thank you for your info. i just like to yell at them and curse them out. the problem is there is no way to stop these idiots. the do not call list only seems to work in this country. as a side note i was threatened with being arrested and fined $10,000. my wife and i are still laughing.

I just got a call from these idiots and thank God I decided to call a friend of mine on my cell while I was talking to a "Technical Supervisor" who I was transferred to after a woman had me do a few things with my keyboard. The accent alerted me that this call although it said Dist. of Columbia on the caller I.D. was coming from a foreign land.

When I told my friend who is very knowledgeable about computers and everything else what was going on he told me to hang up immediately and to Google the phone number which brought me here. So if you get a call like everyone says hang up and tell them to go "F" themselves!!!!!

Yeah, got the call today and could hardly understand the son of a [***]! I felt right away this was a scam, and told the guy so. he would not take no for an answer. I told him I could barely understand him and where was he from? He would not say. I said your a scamming SOB and hung up.

I went along with what the guy was saying on the phone to see what he was gonna do and when I told him that I did know what Event Viewer red and yellow things were he hung up on me. The scary thing was that he knew my full name, address and phone number...

Claimed I was being hacked but couldn't give me what site I was currently on.

I think it's funny that they try to cover their [***] because the area code is Washington D.C.. I missed the call, but thank goodness, when I get weird numbers like this I always google them to find out where they are from and what they are if they don't leave a message. I have been getting more and more scam calls as of late. One of them trying to get me to pay to save on my existing electricity bill. Ha! Why would I pay more money to save money? Idiots!

Just got a call from this number (202-011-3341) about 10 min. ago.  I am a computer professional for over 3 decades.  Even without the computer background and experience, I could sense this is not for real.  One thing to note, never ever let anyone remotely log on to your machines!!!

Just call a call from this number,we called back and a young child answered and when I questioned who called from this number this child said no one called their number twice,twice may I add so I just said ok and beware of these strange phone calls do not let them no anything.Trace the call and do your research.Better yet don't answer if you don't know the number.That is what answer machines are for.

Thank you for this information.  I got a call from the number and hung up.  I often wondered how degraded individuals stole information.  Now I know more about the workings of a computer.  thank you for taking the
time to do what you did.

Received several calls from these folks.  They are located in India and refuse to remove names from their calling list.  They are aggressive and rude.  These people are not to be trusted and my response is to discontinue the conversation immediately.

We've received several calls from them in the last few days.  I hung up on them today and they called right back - didn't answer that time.  Is there any way they can hack into my computer by just keeping me on the phone line with them?
 I'm going to go buy a loud blow horn and blast it into the phone the next time I get a call.

Caller ID said District of Columbia but said he was from Best Help.  In a heavy Idian accent, he started telling me about infections that have entered into my computer, not viruses, and was I on my computer and logged in right now.  When I started questioning him about how he got my phone number, he hung up.

They are scam artists. Get a whistle keep it by your phone and when they spew their crap, blow their ears out.

I recieved a call this morning  from 202-011-3341 per caller ID.  The call back number I was given  is 866-539-8674.  The caller was a woman with a heavy Indian Accent with a great deal of noise in the background.  I couldn't understand I word she said and she was very pushy.  She claimed to be calling from Microsoft Help and said someone has been trying to hack into my computer for the past few weeks.  Further, she said she was responding to sent error messages.  When asked her name she ignored me.  When asked how I could check the call's legitmacy, she kept talking.  When asked where she was located, and if her service was a result of outsourcing, she ignored the questions.  I became very agitated as my questions were not being answered.

She wanted me to settle the issue right then and asked me to minimize my programs and go to my desktop.  At that point I told her I was uncomfortable and that  this was not a good time and asked for her name and number (for the third time).  Finally she said her name was Kate and gave me the number above.  She also said to call tomorrow between 6 Am and 10:30 AM and that I must speak with her.

She also kept asking me if I was the registered user, which I told her I was. But in retrospect I think it is actually my husband.  She had his full name.

I called Microsoft to see if this was an outsourced service.  I was told that those sent reports are sent to a database and that a call never results from them .  Also, I was advised to not not call back as that is not how it works.

Got a call from this number today and felt right away it was a scam and told the man so and hung up. He called right back and tried to scare me into thinking my computer was going to crash within the next 15 min. if I didn't allow him to help me. I once again hung up and alerted my family members not to fall for this if he calls back.

Got a call from this number earlier toady and they said that my computer was being hacked so then me beng a Certified Network Administrator I immediately popped the question to him about what IP address the messages were coming from. He immediately told me 192.168.71.57. I told him that due to network security I never used that the 192.168.0.0/255.255.0.0 networks. he told me well that is where the attack was coming from. so at that point I went along with him and I have zone alarm installed on my computer and when he made me go through the event viewer i went along with him and he told me not to click on any of the yellow or red icons in there due to the fact that it could really mess up my computer. Wrong answer. The event viewer just gives you information and can not harm your computer o matter what you click on. After that I was told to go to logmein123.com and I did I put the code in and when the connection was trying to be made I recorded the IP address and Blocked the connection as Zone alarm allows you to decide if you want to allow outside sources to connect otherwise I never would have put the code in. After that I told him that I was sorry but my internet service had dropped. and that I would reconnect in a few minutes as I had to wait for the DHCP servers to give me an IP address. He tried to help me do an IPConfig /renew command but instead I told him my credentials and he immediately hung up on me. I traced the IP Address back to Iraq. The IP address was 5.42.221.87.
