202-241-2203

I just received a message from - and I quote - "Officer Max Smallson from IRS Department; Internal Revenue Service" who announced that a case has been made against my name and that my name and identity are under investigation. His tone was very hostile. He said I must call him back at 202-241-2203 and if I don't, he will start his "legal process" against me. This man was obviously calling from an offshore call centre: the background was very noisy and he was not very good at reading the prepared script. Also, as a Canadian it's not likely I would be dealing with the "IRS Department". I guess scammers are trying new methods, but this sort of call could potentially frighten a vulnerable person. Shame on them! (I googled this number and it came up on numerous other sites (including 800notes.com) as a scam.)
