This is a fraud number. Someone with foriegn accent claims to be IRS officer and wants money to be sent to them for some criminal wrong doing complaint. These people have a VOIP (Internet phone), they are calling from some other country but on caller ID it appears as "Washington DC". I wish FBI can do something to catch this scam.

I also got the same call. The guy could not even pronounce the name correctly.It is a scam to get some money by fraud..
IRS always send you a letter  and do not call you, if they have some issues.

This is a fraud number. Someone with foreign accent claims to be IRS officer. He called looking for "Shahid" and I told him he had the wrong number and told me that I was lying! I told him don't call me again.

Spoofing the 202 Washington DC area code is fairly common among these phone scammers.  The fake federal grant and the IRS scam are really common too.  You can report these scam calls to the IRS, the donotcall site doesn't really apply to this kind of fraud.

A post at 800notes.com says that the people spoofing the DC area code number are almost always located in India, Thailand, Africa, Jamaica, and some other countries.  Sometimes it's individuals committing the scams but entire scam call centers have been discovered in other countries spoofing the 202 phone numbers and making their scam calls to Americans.

They are a scam. I just got a call from them. Said they are from the IRS "Reassessment Department". Said the IRS had already sent me 3 notices to my mailing address. They had my name correct. They had my cell number obviously and they had my home address. They asked for my date of birth, which I unfortunately gave to them. They said if I didn't resolve what I owed to the IRS, then my file was going to the State Police Department right after the call. The IRS has a notice about these kinds of scam calls on their website. DO NOT give them your personal info!!!

Got the same call from this number. I'm pretty sure the guy was Indian trying to sound like an American one.
These [***] have gotten power to cause nightmare in innocent people. I wish they could bust them and expose big time.

Definitely Fraud.    Tell them you will be calling the Federal Trade Commission (FTC )and the  Treasury Inspector to verify what they are saying. Ask for a number to call them back  and they will HANG UP and never call again!

A guy with Chinese accent called and left msg that he is from IRS and there are charges against me. Bloody well... called me by nickname not even legal name. Has a whole Call Center noise in back. Looks like running a Mega scam straight from Chinatown..Almost Comical... More funny then serious..!! Hear this Chin Chao pretending to be John Wayne !!!

My mother just called me to say a Sam Cooper with a foreign accent said he was from the IRS and wanted to speak to her about money.   She said she could not speak English well.   He wanted to know what language she spoke to find someone who can speak to her.   She then told "Sam" that her daughter handles all things money.    She took down his phone number.   Of course, I checked here to see if the number comes up as a scam.  

Oh, clap.  They just called me today.  Asked $1,247.24 cents right away, otherwise, local police officers come to my house in 30 minutes and I'll be hand-cuffed.

Got a call from this # as IRS imposter with Indian accent.  IRS never call people without documentation sent.  

I have received dozens of calls from this number. They always leave threatening voicemails saying I owe money to the IRS. I finally answered the phone this morning and told him to stop calling me or I was going to call the police. He told me to go ahead and conference them in. Then he said he was going to come to my house and hurt me and my family and then rape me (only he said it WAY more graphically). I filed a police report and have tried blocking the number. There is also a page on the IRS website where you can complain but clearly that's not working.

A guy with a very strong Indian accent called saying he was from IRS and there was a matter
pending. Ny wife told him not to call here again. The phone rang and he left a very rude meassage
and then again, and again probably 5-6 times before I told my wife to unplug the phone. Not sure where
these knuckleheads are calling from. I have been told by many the IRS will not call, they initiate all
matters by mail. Don't fall for this Crap!!!

These scammers have called 4 times in the last 2 days.  They are so transparently bogus but it's not amusing anymore.  I've tried hanging up on them but so far it hasn't been effective.  Has anyone found a strategy that works with them?
