Got a phone call at 12:38am and was greeted with an automated message giving me a access code??

This is Google voice calling the number to verify ownership

it's google.  if you signed up for 2-step verification (everyone should) then they'll either call or text you when you try to sign in to your account.  (if you hadn't signed up for the service and get a call, it's possible someone else mis-typed their phone number when they signed up.)

I believe someone tried connecting my phone to their account without permission and would like this un done. this is my privacy and i dont see why someone was even able to do so but i know someone did so. please un do this for me. i do not want them being able to have access to my phone contents. thank you

Same thing happened here. Finally answered this call and got a repeated access code and nothing else. When I called the number back, it said the call could not be completed as dialed!

What's the use of the DO NOT CALL list when you get scammy calls at almost midnight!

Its "Google Voice" asking for your verification code when you signed up.

This gal asked for my phone number and like a dumbass I gave it..got a call thinking it was her..had to enter some verication number..then it said account activated..here is her email addy

Google Verification for Google Voice forwarding phone. You have to initiate it to call you. If it is calling you and you do not have Google Voice, then most likely someone accidentally typed in wrong number.

I received a text from a different number wanting to buy an item we had on craigslist then asked if the could call me of course I said yes then they said to use the 2 digit extension code when I answered it said to enter my activiation code! I hung up has called back 3 times in 4 min.

Also, I just wanted to say "Thank You!" to everyone who posts and confirms what these weird #s want and the purpose of their call and say that this is a GREAT website and it's a MUCH better resource than the simple White Pages reverse phone number lookup, as well. How wonderful it is to be able to not only verify WHO these #s are but WHERE they are calling from and WHY they are calling! The simple reverse lookup sites only tell you whether it is a cell phone or land line and basically where the area code is from; this site is a fantastic resource for ANYONE who gets random, weird calls (*which is just about EVERYONE, isn't it?) and I bookmarked it immediately upon finding it.

you are getting these calls because your are getting scammed. someone is trying to connect your # on google voice so they can use your identity to text your friends and beg you to wire cash to them. Same thing is happening to me from the same number after I responded to a craigslist ad. did you recently reach out to someone over the net?
