Said they were giving me a government grant and to retrieve it from western union

I was just contacted by a man claiming to be from the US Federal Government Grant Department Health and Human Services. Claiming that I qualified for a $7,800 grant from the US Gov.
He gave me a grant file number and a number to call back when I was at a western union office, then I was to send $225 to them to show what office I was at, then they would send me a total of $8025 back to me.

The number he called me from is (202)657-2222 and the number I was to call back was (202)470-6766.

He also stated he got my information from me applying for a job online... Is this real? My gut says no... but I am asking just in case, because I could use the money, but my gut says nothing is for free, and that it is a scam...

How can I tell if it is or not?

It's a fraud! A BIG SCAM! Don't fall for it. They called me too and it just didn't make any sense. Why should I have to western union $225 to receive $7,000 in grants? I did an extensive research and found out all they're trying to do is take your money! Please don't do it and if they call again, curse them out! Lol

My son's girlfriend called to see what I thought about a call she received from this number.  As soon as she mentioned they wanted her to go to Western Union I knew it was a scam.  People do not call you when you you are owed money and you never have to send money to get money.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in about this number.  It gave proof to my son's girlfriend in letting her know she was not missing out getting the money they said they had for her.

"Martin Mason" could barely speak English and he has called me on more than one occasion. Real talk if the government is going to send you money they know how to find you.
