When answered call, caller identified self as IRS.  Wanted personal info, which I refused to give at which point caller hung up.

I got an automated voice says its the IRS and that I was due a refund. And that I would need to call the number back.

Wants personal info and says they are from IRS and you are due a refund....

They called me too and the gentlemen was not so nice.  This is a scam!!!

I just received the same phone call 5 minutes ago. I did not answer it I let it go to voicemail.

Same call. Said I was due a refund. I called it back and a middle eastern sounding male answered by saying: hello? I was a little confused and said I had received a call from them and then he changes his tune and says: irs how can I help you? Said an audit had been done and found over the past few years that I was entitled to like 2137 or something like that but asked me to pay like 138 in processing fees and asked if I wanted it direct deposited or in the form of a check. I asked if it was a scam and the guy said goodbye and hung up. Number one the irs doesn't call like that and if you're being audited they inform you by mail first. My mom is calling the attorney general and reporting the number. You should do the same so no one gets screwed out of money!

I just received the same call stating the exact refund amount of $2,173.00,i let it go to voice mail. So glad i looked at this site.Thanks for the info.

My brother just received the same call saying irs owe him 2123 and they asked for 138 processing fee. Unfortunately he gave them the account number for direct deposit but he was lucky to call me first before making the payment they as for.....we already file a report.

A voice message was left 4 times, less than 1 minute apart from this number. I did not returnthe call as I thought it's probably a scam. I goggled the number to see if anyone had a call from this number and yes, there had been.

Got this msg yesterday.  Message sounds broken up, but told me the same amount $2,173.  Havent called the number, it sounded strange, and after reading these messages I guess now I know why. Boo. lol

middle eastern man claiming to be from irs and saying i had a refund due to me $2100 ...but i had to pay $180 using a non secured prepaid card

I got the same call.  It is a computer generated voice that tells me I have a $2100+ refund.  First of all, I am on a payment plan with the IRS because I couldn't pay everything at once this year.  Second, if I was due a refund, the IRS would apply it to what I owe already.  Thirdly, the IRS deals via USPS in matters like this.

It's a scam and needs to be reported.

Caller identifies themselves as from the IRS with news of a refund due me. When you call back it sounds like a normal answering machine.The caller sounds Asian.Obviously a scam since this site lists someone else contacted from the same no#.

i got a message from this number and they said i had a refund of 2173 from the IRS. I had just filed my taxes and it was in the same ballpark and I figured I must have had some adjustments. he had my bank account information, social and refund amount- and verfied my information before I could even tell him. then he told me since my taxes were adjusted- i had to pay the IRS $198 in fees. I was told to go to a western union or pay with the green dot cash card where I could buy it from walgreens or cvs! Red flag went up and he got really ansty when i told him I would do it later today. I asked why my taxes were being adjusted and to give me the exact amount I was owed on my taxes and he started talking fast to get the $198. what baffles me is this guy had all my info when I called the number back. call the IRS and report it. and flag your social security #

I got a call from this number a couple of hours ago they told me about some money I was owed but they already had all my info. Acct # routing etc. am I safe? They cant take my money out?

I received a call from 202-469-1576. The same story - I am due for a refund from IRS $2,173. But because I made a mistake I need to pay penalty first $198. I need to do it via Western union or Green dot money pack. I need get it from CVS, Wal Mart or 7 eleven and call him back for further instructions. He did ask me personal information, DOB etc.  He had my previous account number I used for tax refund last year.
He introduced himself as John H ..something agent # 8644.

After he insisted that if would not pay $198 within 1 day my refund would be cancelled I decided to check this number and found this site. Thanks God!

Same thing happened to us. Left computerized, generic message claiming to be the IRS and we were due a refund of $2173 but needed to call back (202) 499-1576 to "verify" our information. Very glad to have read and been warned here first. Also, know that the IRS especially, doesn't work like that anyhow. I hope no one falls for this scam and the people/person behind this gets caught!

I receive the call for the exact same amont $2173.00 I am very thankful for these post.. they save alot of heart ache and stress.
