- GerryThey left a message on my answering machine regarding my taxes. Left me a hotline number 202 506 8708. Called them back and asked for 800 number. Person on the other line hung up. Tried a second time, the person who replied gave me 800 829 1040. Tried a third time, lady with Indian accent replied. I asked for an 800 number then she asked my phone number to verify. I did not give her my phone number, she said she could not give me 800 number because I did not give her my number. IRS sends mail not call you on the phone. Suspect this is scam.
