somebody call me saying from IRS. fake call

they called my wife claiming to be IRS Agent. Scammers requesting money in a few hours. Hang up on them.

Someone from this number called my wife and claiming that he (James Anderson) is from IRS.  When I asked what is in regard to, he responded Tax Issue.  I asked him to give me a number that I can call him back. He gave me  202-754-8571 and asked me when are you going to call me.  Please watch It is scam! I believe that if there is a tax issue IRS will send a correspondence!

Got a call from this number about getting arrested.  Looking to see where he lives to pay him a visit.

got a call from this number today.  the caller said he is from IRS and even provided a case number and employee ID number stating that if i do not pay $4,000 they would immediately report me to the police to come arrest me and all my credit cards and bank accounts will be closed and stupid me fell for it.  the scheme was for me to go to the bank, get cash, and buy "MoneyPak" cards and provide them with the numbers on the scratch pad so that they would collect the money.  Again, i was duped and foolishly obeyed all the instruction.  All this despite the fact that several months ago I had another IRS threatening call.  That time i googled the number and found out.  don't know why did not do the checking this time.  these low lives had indian/pakistani accent.  watch out!

The person who called me was Mark Johnson. He called on my mom's line. Neither one of us were home so a message was left.  Said he was from IRS.

Definitely an IRS scam. The IRS will typically send notices.

Got this call from same tel# today, May 27, 2014.  Will not respond....

Got a call from this number (202)754-8571 they said its IRS and they recalculate the taxes and I own them $ 3,999.00 when I asked about writing notification they told me we send you couple of certified mails. And now we will put lien on your house, cars.  Its a scam be careful ! Don' t trust !!!!

Our news had something about this, we got a call feom the same number.

I too just got a call 10 minutes ago. After writing down the phone number, and searching the internet to confirm my thoughts - it is a scam. Need to let everyone else no that this is targeting a lot of folks.

Message on our phone stated he was from the IRS and we needed to call him back. He had this sense of urgency that i call him back . I would never fall for this but someone else might.
This scammer  also  had such a terrible accent it was difficult to understand plus I  could hear so many other scammers in the background making their calls.
It seems being on the do not call list means nothing these days. Sick of calls that are not important to me.

Someone called me from 2027548571 on 06/05/14 and left a voice mail. The caller  claimed that he was from IRS and asked to call him back. He also gave my parents' names. The caller had a distinct accent (Indian/Pakistan?). I called back and no one picked up the phone. The was a generic message asking me to leave a voice mail with no indication that I called IRS. I hung up and googled this phone number and it is scam. Don't fall for it.    

Got two voicemails with the same message as the rest if you. I used to work for IRS do I know for certain this is a scam. Can't believe that people fall for it!  Called them back and left voicemail saying that if they call me one more time I will report them which I really will. Let's see what happens.

how can i report this? They just drove me to a panic attack by saying its a police and they have an arrest warrant. They gave me this number to call IRS if I want to resolve this issue.

Spoofing 202 area code, Washington DC phone numbers is very common.  Here's some info I found about the most common 202 spoof scams right now:

Government Grants Scam

"Government officials" call to offer a grant or say you've qualified for a grant.  They want your banking info so they can deposit the thousands in grant money to your account, but of course, no money will be deposited for you.  Private citizens do not qualify for grants, they are issued to certain non-profits and other institutions.  Go to Grant.gov for more info.


IRS Scam

The scammer impersonates an IRS employee, asks for your social security number and and bank account numbers.  The often claim that the IRS needs the information to complete the processing of your payment.  In a similar scam they state that the check issued by IRS has not been cashed, and the IRS is calling to verify the individual’s bank account number.  Another scam is to use strong arm tactics saying that the IRS is coming after you for taxes you owed and didn't pay, pressuring you into sending money you really don't owe.  Go to IRS.gov for more info and to report the fraudsters to the feds.

Almost all of these spoof 202 calls are based in other countries.  There are even entire boiler rooms of them in India and other countries.

Caller claims she’s from the Federal Claims Commission and wants to check on a package that was ordered.

Caller claims she’s from the Federal Trade Commission about an unclaimed package. When I asked her to explain she said she’d call back. Ms Roth called repeating the same intro. I said ‘didn’t I just talk to you?’ She abruptly hung up.
