HOW TO THROTTLE BOGUS CALLS

Ok, here's a solution if your phone has a 
contacts list--it works quite well on my iPhone.

Step 1, create a contact named such as:
            IGNORE JUNK CALL
Step 2, select a SILENT ring type for this contact. 
            Or, select a distinctly unusual ring tone like
             CRICKETS or MOTORCYCLE  or RIFLE...
Step 3. Enable CALLER ID for your line

What you do is to put all bogus and scam callers in this 
list... Here's how.

Now, unless you know a toll free number owner,
let all calls of this type go unanswered, and if no 
voicemail is left, add the Caller ID as this phone  number
In IGNORE JUNK CALL. Also add any other bogus calls
you get or know about go in this contact. Meaning
all callers that don't leave a voice mail, or are soliciting
you for services or products who you don't have
a business relation with. And slime bags you don't want
to talk to, like that jerk at the bar, or your ex.

For new toll free and also out of area cslls: run these
through Google search to see if they have been reported
as junk. 

Don't call a toll free number back, it captures your
phone number and you get on other  lists to call you.

FURTHER: Don't take the default voice mail message
that came with your phone, because it usually
speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't 
around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name.  

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.
My list is long now, my silent ring saves me a lot
of interruption.

Yet another call from someone I don't know about something I have no interest in!  The caller ID says Mag Strat. Mag didn't leave a message.

It was a political call from New Jersey.  I answered the first couple of questions and then hung up.
It was a robo-call and they wanted to know if I intended to vote in November, whether I was going to vote Democrat or  Republican and whether or not I knew the candidates. That's when I hung up.

This lets you know if a repeat caller is on the line, but I prefer the silence myself.  My iPhone lights up showing the caller ID, even though I have a silent ring.

Step 3. Enable CALLER ID to be displayed for incoming calls that are made to your phone. It's a pity these stealth calls UNKNOWN, or OUT OF AREA, or their ilk, can't be blocked by any phone I know about. My iPhone won't let me put these names where the phone number field is entered.

So, what you do is to put the phone numbers of all bogus and scam callers that contact you, or try to call you, in this special contact.

speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name as well.

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.

My list is long now, my silent ring saves me from tons of spam and scam, and yes, the do not call list is worthless, and toothless as well.

Consider writing a letter or email to your phone supplier, or your congressman to fix this awful state of affairs, and to put some teeth into the DO NOT  CALL law. Ask them to shut down the services that allow fake telephone numbers to be used as well.

Just, 10/02/2012 6:47PM (CDT), received a cal from 202-800-5504 ..... Caller ID said it was from Mag Strat in Washington, D.C. ..... I DO NOT KNOW ANY MAG STRAT IN WASHINGTON, D.C. so I did not answer the call .....

Caller ID also came up as Mag Strat - They left no message

Received a call from 1-202-800-5504, caller ID showed it was from MAG START, Wsdhington, D.C. ..... This is a survey company ..... I am, and have been since it started, on the DO NOT CALL list but since reglions and polticians are excempt I have to put up with there [***] .....

Forget about these complicated schemes to eliminate spam calls and just sign up with a VoIP provider that offers a decent set of features to handle the problem.  My CallCentric service stops these calls dead in their tracks with a telemarketer block feature that requires callers not in my address book to press a number to be connected.  Robo calls can't do that so my phone never rings.  Simple and very, very effective.

Got a couple of these every day, figure by the DC area code it's a political polling bunch. No msg.

Come on folks, it's election year and the call is from Washington, D.C.. As suspected, this is a political research/polling firm! Verified this info when I called the number back.

This is a political survey on a few political issues regarding Louisiana.
