Got  a  recording on my answering machine 8/30/14. Guy has a Australian(?) accent.   Hard to figure out his words.  Said he is officer Darrick Foster.  If we don't call back or" hear from our attorney",   he "wish us good luck and the fool's on us". Have reported this  to the   police.

Guy with heavy accent called September 2 about 9:30AM and said he is an IRS officer. It appears to be a recording because when I tried to talk to him, there is no response. He wanted me or my attorney  to contact IRS or I'll be in trouble.
    • Caller: IRS?

Received similar call from 202-864-1247. We didn't answer because it was 7 am. He left message in a terrible fake Scottish accent, this time using the name Officer Gary Foster. Said same things about wishing us luck and the fool's on us if we didn't return the call.

Same ploy here.  I called back just to give "Officer Eric Foster" a hard time.  He asked me if I had an attorney, and told me that a subpoena would be at my door this evening.  When I joyfully said "That's Terrific!" to mess with him he got bored and ended the call.  Assuming they're trying to scam elderly people, which is horrible.

Just called today and left a message.  Sounds totally like a computerized phone message with words put together. But with a new York accent of sorts. Very creepy. Weirdo. Hope I can actually be here to answer his call next time, as this will be fun to find out what it's all about.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:

They had a warning out not to answer any calls coming from numbers starting with 202 It is a scam. They are telling people  they are IRS and  that they owe money and if it isn't paid right away you will be in so much trouble. And on and on. Internal Revenue said they would never make someone go make a payment like right now. They are having people pay with credit cards or wiring money to a certain card thru western union... That is the warning I was told about

Received a voicemail from man with heavy accent.  When I returned call, he told me he was an Officer with the IRS and there was an issue with our taxes and a fine was to be issued.  I questioned how he received my cell number to which there was no response & asked that if there was tax issues, that he forward in writing to the address they, (IRS) had on file.  Scam central in my mind.

Thanks David - I have received a couple of calls this week on my cell with someone who is using the magic Jack voice over line.  The other one said he was calling from Windows and that they were receiving multiple errors from my computer. I asked him to remove me from his call list and hung up on him & he had the @#$!% to call me back.  Pretty crazy!!

Just had a long conversation with the person from this number.  I offered to pay the $3,645 that I owe for the tax years 2009-2013 but apparently I am ineligible to pay.  They are going to freeze my bank accounts and take me to federal prison within the hour.

Received a call from this number ............. Guy with an Australian accent claiming to be an IRS employee calling and leaving a threatening voicemail. Is impersonation not a CRIME? Wonder what authorities are doing about it even after these multiple complaints.
