Called and said IRS   will seize all my assets, and that there is warrant for my arrest.  I am a law abiding citizen and I have not done anything

I got the same message from the same number.  I believe it's a SCAM!

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for this.

The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Therefore, report it also to your local law enforcement agency. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad or New Delhi. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to demand decisive action from the FBI, the IRS and other federal agencies against organized crime directed against American citizens from abroad.

As widely reported by local and national media all across the United States and warned about by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (see http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm) a tidal wave of fraud using Internet phones has hit the United States. Millions of dollars already have been stolen by criminals impersonating federal officers while hiding in countries like India and Pakistan, where most of the calls originate. There seems to be no end of it in sight.

I have personally been targeted by these scammers but it is the most vulnerable among us that I am concerned about primarily. The scheme is specifically singling out those that can least defend themselves against these crimes, in particular the elderly. I am also worried that given the origin of these gangsters, the money stolen from US citizens may be used for financing of terrorism or other activities directed against the national interests of the United States. But in spite of this clear and present danger to our country and its citizens I have seen no action worth mentioning by the FBI, the IRS or other federal agencies so far.

As a member of Congress overseeing the law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting fraud and ensuring national security, I implore you to make sure that they act on these threats and are given all the necessary resources to target these criminals in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.

keep calling them back.  they get pretty annoyed and start answering with curses after a few calls back at them. funny stuff.

got the same thing...so annoying.  between this type of call and solar energy companies calling all day (even thought i'm on the National Do Not Call List) I'm about to terminate my land line.

Land line or cell phone, they'll continue to call because it becomes lucrative enough if they cast a wide net.  I have only a cell phone.  All of last year I recieved calls from India claiming that I was eligible for a $7000 grant. They wouldn't take no for an answer and kept calling and demanding my bank or credit card information.

This time around, I get this voicemail explaining the supposed fraud charge. My accountant got  a dozen concerned phone calls from clients that day. When I blocked the number, they called me from this number.

Funny part is, the guy- "Melvin"- pretended to be a recording, even though I answered the phone.

I don't know how they live with themselves.

I, too,got a call from "Melvin" telling me that I was being charged with tax evasion and if I didn't reply,there would be a warrant out for my arrest. Even though I knew it was a scam, I called the 202 number.....surprisingly enough, Melvin answered.  When I said that the IRS does not make phone calls of this nature  an told him that it was BS and a total scam, he hung up on me. I said a  lot more but censors do not allow it.......Also, they did answer the phone saying they were the IRS.

Phone call came in on my roommates line today at 1:39pm with some guy named Melvin(no last name) supposedly representing the IRS and saying that the person that they called is under investigation for tax evasion and that there is a warrant for their arrest. They further said that someone should call this number back. Never gave a name, confirmation number, nothing. It was a male that at times lost his accent.

Just received a call from this number, and they left a voice mail. Stating the same information as others on here.
I ignored the voice mail, i have had problems before with the IRS and they DO NOT CALL YOU!!! they always get in contact with you via mail. And only time you speak with someone over the phone is because YOU call them.

I received a message from this number saying they were going to send out an arrest warrant, but I am a law abiding citizen. It is probably a scam, but it felt like a prank call!

got a voicemail from an indian sounding male giving an irish name. states he is from IRS & there is a warrant for my arrest for tax fraud. there is no answer at the number he left for me to call. like the rest of you I am a lawabiding citizen- never committed tax fraud.

I received the  same call from Melvin. He left a voice mail stating that I was being charged with tax evasion and that a warrant would be issued for my arrest if I didn't return the call. I'm tempted to prank call him back just to mess with him. It's BS like this that passes me off.

I got the same message from the same number.  It's 100% scam all the  way Melvin is fraud.  

This has to be a scam.  No way a legal officail woul call and speak to someone in the manner the caller did on my message.  

I got the same message..  Been having fun calling MELVIN back and bugging him!!  Are people really so stupid as to not realize this is a SCAM???

A man with a very pronounced accent called and accused me of tax fraud, and said it was a "red flag matter" he also said that he was going to issue a warrent for my arrest ( he did not have any names though) and then politely asked me to call him back before he "does such things"   This was the most fake sounding scam call I have ever received. I saved it so I can play it for my friends. Everyone laughs!

Call them back and say you are "Officer Ben Chote" from the FBI - this translates to "Officer Go F-ck Your sister" in Hindi - they hang up pretty fast - repeat numerous times on different lines - FUN!
