They Dont just call from this number. They'll call from all kinds of numbers not only 6times a day but Ive had them call me 5 times back to back in 10mins!!! They will also call and say that they're with my local police station (and thats how they say it) Saying that they's a warrent out for my arrest. And threaten to come to my job and arrest me. I had to change my phone number. (this was June of last yr) and I dont know how but they've found my new number.

IF YOU HAVE A CELL PHONE, GET THE APP CALLED MR. NUMBER.  YOU CAN BLOCK IT THE SPLIT SECOND IT RINGS!!!

They're identity thieves. They called telling me I had multiple felony warrants for retail fraud and they were giving me one chance to settle up or I was going to be arrested. If you are going to be arrested, they aren't going to call ahead! I played along, pretending to be freaking out. They said it must be someone else and tried everything to get my personal information.

They keep calling me about a debt that I paid off 11 years ago!

Been receiving harassing calls from multiple numbers for years.  Bill collectors.  My rating is excellent, by the way.  I have written directing them to stop the harassment.  All they do is sell it to the next collector and continue the harassment from another number.  Got one from this number last night.  I do not answer calls from unknown numbers and they only rarely leave a message.  This one did not leave a message. I have been yelled at, lied to, been called a liar, threatened with court, on and on.  All such actions are illegal unless they have grounds.  I have been told a subpoena will be going out "tomorrow" to appear in court.  Strangely I have never received any such thing.  If I had the time and money, I would get a lawyer and sue.  We have that right.  They will resort to anything and are the scum of the earth in my book.   .    

Didn't answer this call from Alabama knowing it was some sort of fraud number.

Call is from Portfolio Recovery. They use multiple numbers. They are a scam debt collection agency. They use all sorts of lies and trickery to get people to pay on old debt. Do not answer, do not talk to them. Don't even answer to tell them it's the wrong number. Do not answer.

Look up your state's laws. In California the statue of limitations for suing to collect debt is 4 years. After 4 years, they can't do anything. As long as you do not talk to them or make a payment, if you make a payment, it will restart to 4 year clock. They can not sue, they can not garnish, they can't do anything after the statue of limitations runs out.

And after 7 years, the negative mark will be removed from your credit report.

Again, look up your own state's laws and DO NOT TALK TO THEM.

Is not that they're (Portfolio Recovery) like many other low life debt collectors out there, these guys actually are among the more professional debt collectors - hard to believe, isn't it? However because they buy leads and debt in bulk, they acquire old and statute expired debt, right along with legitimate ones. Unfortunately is not going to help their bottom line to try to figure which is which, so they go after all of them.  It gets nasty when they work an account for a while and there is no pay off.  At that point for all their grand standings, their agents act no different that any other low life debt collector. And no - they will not listen to any arguments about the debt is old, paid off, or not your. All they want is some money (10 to 30 cents on the dollar) so they can get the supervisors off their back and maybe get a bonus. This company is a big one so they know how to get around federal rules. If you want to get them off of you, go through your state's authorities.
