- DanielSome research center tried calling back during the day and pushed each button they said to and it was invalid. I am calling someone to ask about it.
- JoSKI answered the phone, and they said they wanted to do a survey on utilities. Asked my age group, and then what county I live in in Alabama. But... they didn't even have my county, and my county is one of the larger/more populated ones in the state. After I had to give them a different county, they had no further questions. Um...

I'm on the do not call list. - seriouslyStated that she calling to see if I was interested in a testing for electronics survey in area and would pay 150.00 for 3 microsoft reps to come to my home and ask me questions after hooking up a device to my tv. She stated that it looks like I have cable one service but I needed to provide a flat screen tv and hdmi cable. She had 3 female slots left open. The survey would take about 60 minutes.

My 2 home numbers have been on the FCC's do-not-call list since its inception. It has not helped.
I've asked the callers to put me on their do-not-call lists. It has not helped. They call back in 3 months. . I've tried speaking with managers/supervisors and explain why they are wasting their company's resources calling me because I vow never to purchase by phone or donate anything by phone. Does not help. The same companies still call (from card services, home security systems, personal alert systems, computer antivirus companies, etc)
Why have my efforts failed?
Telemarketing actions are driven by statistics. A telemarketing call ends as a "win", "loss" or "undecided" for the telemarketing company. These companies will only stop calling if their probability of a "loss" exceeds their probability of "win" or "undecided".
An "undecided" status could be a hang-up, disconnection or "no answer". So those actions only keep the telemarketer calling since there is a hopeful chance to turn the "undecided" status into a "win" status for your phone number.
With this understanding, these questions come to mind:
Q: How can I increase the "loss" count for telemarketing companies?
A: By making the phone call lead to a "loss" for the telemarketing company. It takes a whole population to accomplish this task, but I can make my single contribution towards this goal.
Q: How can I increase the "loss" count for the telemarketing companies?
A: I answer these telephone calls and politely keep the caller on the phone as long as I can and then ending with a "loss". The long call costs the telemarketing company in terms of time&money. With increased "loss" calls, the telemarketing companies will have to change their practice.
Q: How can I manage the feelings of frustration?
A: Always be polite. No need to degrade your own self esteem because of a foolish telemarketing program. Be understanding that the individual callers are just people trying to make a living. Perhaps they are not capable for other work. I'm sure the telemarketing companies (their bosses) treat these callers horribly based on how these companies treat us (the innocent public). Our frustration is with these companies, not these individuals.
Q: What are some tactics that may help deal with these calls?
A: Here are some examples that may help:
1. Memorize a false name, address, birthday, hometown, etc. to respond to the questions from these callers. Having that info handy will make your efforts more effective. Name: Barney E Larrioppe, born 15-Apr-1965 in West Golley, Alabama, etc.
2. For research surveys, answer the first 3 questions and then say that you have 3 questions of your own before you'll go further. Perhaps ask the caller how his telemarketing company treats him, and say you've pondered going into the industry yourself. Perhaps ask advice about your pet turkey needing surgery to modify its gobble. Et cetera.
3. For home security systems, keep the caller engaged and after 1 minute or so say that you were just joking and that you are just 11 years old.
4. For donations, just respond that you give through your favorite religious organization only and would never donate by phone due to possibility of scams and telemarketing practices. "I try to let you guys know by registering with the FCC's do-not-call-list."
5. For calls to speed up or to check your computer for viruses, then use a delay tactic to keep the caller on the line. For example, "While my slow machine boots up, let's talk about the Korean baseball teams. What do you know about them?" After 1 minute, say "Golly, I need to reboot again, it seems." Then keep the call alive another minute.
6. If it's a robo-call (recorded call), then listen to it and choose the option to speak with a representative. Then lead the rep on using the tactics above. (After some time, I may say, "Ya know, I will never purchase anything by phone and that's why I'm on the FCC's do-not-call list for 12+ years. Why do you guys call anyway? I try to let you guys know by registering my phone numbers with the FCC's do-not-call-list, but you call anyway. Your boss should just take the time to check that list before calling, he'd keep you from wasting your time. That statement usually ends the call.)
Telemarketing is a short-sighed marketing scheme. For every "win", it create much ill-will advertising. Too many overpaid Executive Vice Presidents over Marketing Departments just don't get that simple fact today. The US airline companies with their incessant credit card offers are good examples.
Hope this helps. Peace and Patience.- Caller: New South
