When I answered, nobody replied

When I answer, no reply

when i answer and ask it to talk to me, it just waits a few seconds and says "goodbye". so far today, in five hours i have received five calls. Caller ID says it is "FRIENDLY MESSAGE".

I didn't answer the call at 0800 this morning but I did when it called me again at 1300 and like everyone else, no reply it just hung up on my after a few seconds.

leaves no msg.  caller id says "Friendly Msg"

I keep getting a call from this number but they don't leave a message and when I answer it they don't say anything

Some marketing companies buy telephone lists from the telephone company. Other marketing companies create their own lists by calling the various telephone numbers and compiling the number of active responses. Computers are very good at doing tedious and repetive tasks and also for number-crunching tasks.

Normally this is not a problem, unless the marketing company classifies your telephone/cell phone as a high value customer and sells on such a call list to other marketing companies.

Sometimes it is a marketing company verifying whether the purchased mailing list of perspective customers phone numbers actually work. It is probably done with a computer.

When you answer the phone, the phone emits a signal that the phone is off the hook, which confirms the validity of the phone number.

I just got 2 calls today from them! I never picked them up I let the machine get it! There was alot of noise in the back ground of people talking and then they hang up! My number is not listed and I don't give it out to anyone but friends and family and legit businesses!

Since I'm in New Jersey and the call is from Maine, I'm guessing my telephone or electric company at my second home in Maine is selling account information to people.
