Called with this ridiculous ID of 210-000-0000. Didn't leave a message. Why would I take a call from someone who is lying to me before I ever even pick up the phone? Idiots!

I've received a number of calls from this number.  I usually don't bother answering.  I did answer this afternoon.  I could hear voices in the background.  I told the person on the other end of the phone to go [***] themselves.

They'v been calling every 20 minutes this morning.  Finally answered wanted me to order medication.  They said name only understood pharmacy.  They denied calling that many times.  As I was telling them to never call back again they hung up on me.  So far no calls - shouldn't have said that.
    • Caller: some type of pharmacy

    trapped in the twilight zone
when this # called me, I answered by mistake because I never answer unknown numbers. True, I have  creditors after me - used to be a high-functioning professional with a doctorate degree - then up and left in 2009, abandoned condo & asests, travelled for 3 years within the country until savings and 20 yrs of RRSP's were depleted.  Thought by others (obviously) to be dead . . . not saying I didn't try (caught 3 times & ended up you know where). Now living totally incognito for 2 years in large metropolous etting, and then ...
THIS NUMBER CALLS ME and out of the blue a women voice comes on and says:
My actual FIRST NAME (which is a very uncommon name), and in a sort of groaning or disgusted tone,  says CALL ME.

Since 2009, I have not gone by my first name, using my middle name instead which is generic, plain and common. Extremely rarely have I had to use my last name.

This call freaked me out. It has tried 4 times in total and cannot be called back.
    Any ideas anybody??

Said she was from Microsoft and someone had my computers number and was stealing my info. Microsoft had sent me 500 warnings, she said. she wanted me to press ctrl/ the windows button and the letter R to show if someone was messing with my computer at this time... ( what does that do ? ). I told her I would need a number to call back and make sure she was with Microsoft. the number she gave was 1-800-986-4762 ... whatever

They call us about twice per week for the last month, I knew what it was about because my husband works in IT and hears about these scams all the time. They tell you something's wrong and for $40 they will fix it. You pay, nothing happens and you're out $40 - I have not heard however of additional charges to people who have fallen for this scam.

The easiest way to get them to stop calling you?

Answer the call, and when they tell you they're calling from Microsoft about your windows computer. Respond that you find that very interesting because you have an android tablet and chromebook (neither of which use any microsoft products) they kind of freak out and hang up - they've also never called us again.

Got a call didn't answer. No VM. Re: Microsoft comments. I find this interesting because of the timing. I normally use my PC daily but haven't for the last few days. Is it possible someone hacked in and was aware I wasn't using my PC?

Just something coincidental likely but if anyone has any insight that would be greatly appreciated.
