I have been getting calls day after day from this number on my cell phone.  It's  a recorded msg about car warranties and gives you two options.  Press 1 to talk to representative, 2 to be removed from list.  I've pressed 2 and they still call.  I pressed 1 tonight and before I could tell the lady to stop calling, I was hung up on.  This is ridiculous!  I'm on the do not call list!

I got a call from this number today. I asked the name of the company, was told it is National Dealer Services and was given a call back number of 866-414-7463.  One of our local (Denver, CO) news stations has done a story on this problem as they are calling just about everyone several times a day.  Choosing option 2 is supposed to take you off their list, but some people have reported an increase in calls.  Here's what you should do.  Choose option 1 and pretend to be interested, just short of giving credit card info.  Get as much info from the person as you can, including the name of the company and a callback number.  I would suggest not asking for names as that is when I got hung up on.  Report the call to your state attorney's office and file a complaint.  You can also go to www.donotcall.gov and file a complaint there.

Got a call from this number today and "Angela Brown" left a message on my cell phone that we "spoke last week" (of course, we didn't) and she could lower my interest rate to 1.5% on my credit card(s) and to call back to an 866 number.  NOT!

    Some sort of scam
I just got a voice message from a female voice saying this would be her last courtesy call. She said something about making minimum payments and that she had found a deal for me, she said their program would be great for me.  She said to call 1-888-442-0788. I have no debt, so she must have being trying to scam me. Beware!

I just got a call from this number, but it sounded like a voice recording message that started once I'd picked up.
Some male voice claiming to be sorry to have taken so long to get back to me about some credit card consolidation and interest reduction offer.

I hung up at that point.

Hung up before they could say much -  a recording that started out like they were returning a call to me about a credit card program.

I received the same message from a southern sounding female that left a voicemail message stating that she was sorry to get back to me so late and that this would be her last courtesy call. She also said that she had previously spoken with me & that I have a lot of debt & she could lower it to 1.5%! SCAM! First of all, I would certainly remember speaking to someone about my finances, but granted that I don't have debt, in fact I'm a lawyer that investigates these kind of frauds. I can't believe people fall for that! Get it together people! The female that is doing this will get hers when she has to meet her maker one day. I can tell you that these people are getting found out a lot faster these days due to technology! It's sad that a person would use a sweet, affable voice to pursuede people to call & then get scammed. I honestly don't know how people can live with themselves, but I do know that karma is a *itch! We're closing in on you & we'll get you!

Got a call from "Angela Brown", said to call 888-422-0788, but that number belongs to a guitar store.  The lady that answered said that someone named "Angela Brown" has been leaving their guitar store's number for days, rather than her own number which according to this page is 888-442-0788.  I guess this is the world's worst scammer, if she can't even give out the right number.

I just got the same thing on a company phone yesterday.  Don't have any debt either and don't give out that number so definitely a scam.  Very frusterating that these people are able to get away with this for so long.  Although I guess someone is falling for these scams.  I can't imagine any one would keep doing this if they were not getting something out of it.

    New Day New Scam
Yep ... me, too. Just got a call at 9:48 AM CDT from 213-504-7000 and an "Angie" left a voicemail - AMAZINGLY!! [You would think it would dawn on them any evidence of their scam that is left on a voicemail can be given to authorities and used to put them in jail .. but no. They aren't that smart.' "Hey Guys.. [Guys?? Uh ,.. no .. just me and I am NOT a guy.] .. It's Angie. We spoke last week about lowering your interest rates and credit card balances? Give me a jingle back when ya can."  Oh!! How friendly!! But .. sadly "Angie"  .. I didn't talk to you last week and know QUITE WELL that the ONLY people who can lower interest rates are the actual credit card companies [even if you work with a debt consolidation company .. they still work with the cc company at your request] and as for balances .. well .. again only the cc company can do that [and these days the NEVER do that - so give up all hope ye who enter THERE!] or a bankruptcy judge. So it is very much a scam that moved from the old "car warranty" deal to the ever more popular as half the nation drowns financially after losing jobs - homes, etc. - "Debt elimination" scam.  Gotta love free enterprise and entrepreneurial spirit in the wrong hands! NOT!!

Got this call today in class. She couldn't even be bothered to wait until the voicemail beeped to start her message, so I didn't get any company or personal name, and I sure as hell haven't talked to anyone about lowering rates. She mentioned it being the "last courtesy call" and that I was making minimum payments. I've of course received no other calls from this number or the one she gave to call back (888-442-0788). An interesting side note: I work in a call center, and if you ever did that on a voice mail, you'd get canned. Anybody who doesn't give you their company name, personal name and phone number again at the end of a message is 90% likely to be scamming  you. This is in no way legit.

Don't get confused about the Do Not Call list. They can legitimately call you if you have given your number out. Most people don't even realize that they have. Almost always if you give your number out for free ringtones, gift cards or something like that, in the super-fine print, they say that they will send you calls about "related offers" which are almost always scams. A lot of places, like charitable organizations or survey centers that are not asking for money don't qualify for the Do Not Call list, and to be fair, that's where some scammers do try to get numbers--and those are the ones that can be prosecuted for it. If you gave your number out, they can call you.

I Can Smell a Scam Like a Fart in a Car

I, too, got the call from friendly "Angela" about how we'd "Spoken last week, umm, about getting, umm, your credit card interest rates, ummmm, lowered, and ummm, since you're only making the minimum payments, ummm, we should do this as soon as possible at 1.5%!!!!!!!!!"

Yeah, sweetie, no dice.  It was the "Minimum Payments" that got me, since I'm actively paying down on 2 cards (One just paid off!! YAY!)  and don't pay the minimums EVER!

So, obviously, this person was using this scam 2 years ago, and saw the opportunity with the current economic situation to put her bait out there again.

Just remember:  Don't dangle your bait, and you won't get Phished!
