Me again.  Here's what i've found.  PAY-TEL sells payphones, that's it.ILDCOMM
provides the phone services.  Their web site is www.ildtelecom.com  Their statement from the website reads:  "ILD maintains locations across the US.  We operate network facilities and call centers in Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale with corporate headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in addision to remote sles offices throughout the country."
So there it is.  My guess is that MOST people are calling from where they SAY their callilng from.  The others, maybe they really don't want you to know where they are.
Unfortunately, as you can see from over the years (look back (UP)) MOST of us have been very concerned and skeptical about what we hear when we answer or when we listen to our messages on our cellphones and answering machines.
This company needs a lesson in customer sevice.  They seem shady because they don't identify their company  (AT&T says "AT&T"),  there recordings aren't friendly and their speech is fast.  No wonder we don't trust what we hear on the other end of the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got a call at 5:25 from this number and thought maybe it was my boyfriend in jail three waying me... but when i called it back, it would either just ring and ring and ring, or it would be a busy tone... idk i wish i knew who called is there one in cookeville? or indiana?

Said this was from a jail somewhere with inmates looking to talk, a women was talking sounded like a canned message or taped message

ITS just a call from a payphone,the payphone may be anywhere in the united states, in a prison or wherever.JUST A PAYPHONE AND ITS ROUTED VIA A TEXAS DALLAS AREA COMPANY!! I just had a friend call me from kansas and he was on a payphone that showed up as this number!

I got a call from this number and they said that my wife, using her first name wanted to call me at my home phone and needed a credit card number. I asked what is the last name of the person that was trying to reach me and then I was put on hold. The call disconnected 2 minutes later. It seemed very suspicious. I asked her when she came home about it and she said she did make a pay phone call to home but the service agent never came back to her after she made the request. It sounds as if this is all legitimate, just really bad service. 2/14/09

It's now 5:15am and I just got another call from this number saying someone is calling me collect and to enter my credit card number.
 ...ya right, like I would enter my number in. And this is about the 32nd time I've gotten this call.

Yea I got a call on Valentines Day from a man saying he was trying to deliver flowers to an Angie R.  I was a little concerned that this is a woman who is a known tramp in the North Georgia area and that the guy I date works with her at Sears.  The "flower guy" knew both his and her name gave me an address right by Mount Berry Mall and when I laughed he hung up.  I know it was a prank cause I have heard this woman is twice my age and hideous.  But it is amusing, she must be desperate her husband must have found out she is a piece of work.

Received a phone call at 6:41am on my mobile from this phone #214-969-5489.  No one responded when I answered.  Figured it was a wrong number but decided to check it just in case.  These scams are ridiculous. Thanks for the information.

I called ILD today and they confirmed this was a payphone.

ITS A calling card

This 214 969 5489 number needs to stop calling my house at 6:30 a.m.  I know it's a Texas number but I know no one from there.

Didnt even know who it was. Only rang once. Tried to call back and it was busy!! After reading all of this on here, I'm very scared now.

They just called me and asked who i was, i thought it was a Jersey area code at first and i had a few friends in Jersey so i replied, then they said "oh i was just wondering who's been calling someone", but i haven't been calling anyone in Central Dallas o.0 it was a female's voice.

The phone numbers 214-969-5489 and 415-656-1073 do not refer to any one single pay phone in any one single location. They are most likely outbound trunk numbers of the long distance companies used by the individual pay phones.

When someone makes a coin paid long distance call from most COCOT pay phones, the pay phone does NOT dial the destination number directly. Instead it dials a toll-free number, listens for a 2nd dialtone, then dials the destination number. By doing this, the company that operates the pay phone will get cheaper long distance rates, but a major side effect of dialing calls this way is that the number of the pay phone will NOT be sent as the Caller ID. Instead callers will receive a 'generic' number that often can not be called back.

Please accept the fact that these numbers (214-969-5489, 415-656-1073, etc.) only indicate a call from some pay phone somewhere, not a specific pay phone location.

I was online with a woman Id met on Mate1, she said she wanted to call me soI gave her my cell, she told me that she had to call collect so I agreed.
I got a call from this number and the "OPERATOR" said that I was to give her a credit card number so she could bill me. I asked why she couldn't just bill my number and she asked again would I pay for the call with a credit card. When I said NO she hung up.
So much for the beautiful woman that wanted to talk to me.

just got a call from this number, the answering machine picked it up. The guy just started giggling and said to tell my mom to get back on mobiesters

It said that I have a phone call from my boyfriend but my phone doesn't accept collect calls and I asked her where was the call coming from and she said Chicago. Then I asked her is it a call from jail or something and she said she didn't know. I was about to ask her another question but she sounded like she was mad or something and hung the phone up. I haven't been in touch with my boyfriend ever since 9 o'clock. I received this phone call at 1:10. Can someone please tell me what did that call come from because I'm worried and he is not picking up the house phone.

I found out that my boyfriend was in the police station and I guess he used the phone there. I was relieved when he said the police let him go. So if someone's calling from the number there calling from different places.

This is the number for the collect calling service using by different jails, halfway houses, mental institutions, etc. The pay phones in this places route through this number and other similar numbers. The source of the call can be anywhere.
