My friends daughter called this morning from this number and said I asked where she was cause it wasnt our area code and she said she was on a pay phone in town.. Its a landline out of Dallas TX but we live in West Virginia.. The phone company for Southern Bell may want to look into this..How can a phone number be used all across the country from different pay phones...

Got a call 2mins ago, said it was from and inmate at Glades, Fl ... its a phishing call.... dont pay att to it nor call back... they will ask you for credit card infor and stuff like that... just ignore it.

They are virtual phones that you can assign to different areas.... welcome to VoIP....

This number can be from any number of people from anywhere in the US, as it is from a telecommunications company that sales calling cards. They are based out of Dallas, TX. Anytime someone makes a call using one of these calling cards this is the number that will show on the caller ID. May be someone you know trying to reach you, a wrong number, a scammer phishing for personal information, ect.. but the one thing it will not be is a telemarketing business, unless for some reason they are using a calling card which is very unlikely.

I got several calls from this number.  It was a friend of mine who had been placed in a nursing home in Joliet, IL.  He tried to call several times and I was never here to answer it.  When I tried to call it back almost all the time I got a busy signal.  Once in a great while it will ring and nobody picks it up.  Today is 6/13/09.

I have just received fours calls in a row from this number. It is just a recorded message of a woman's voice saying I have a collect call from an inmate at the Crisp County Detention Center. On one of the calls, there was a male voice saying something about "I been trying to call you." but he's cut off. i tried calling the number back, but received a recording that the number is not in service.

Keep getting collect calls from this number, from a variation of funeral homes.  "Negro-fied Funeral Home", "Hell's Paradise Funeral Home", etc but with the same old man voice.  

It's usually busy but sometimes it rings and no one answers.  The phone company (AT&T) refuses to block it!!

This has been going on for 5 days and we've had calls at all hours.  Probably about 12 calls now total.

1-212-969-5489 This number keeps calling us 4-5 times a day and into the night sometime even as late as 2:30AM. When we answer it's a really creapy automated voice that says New York funeral Home/Mortuary and that it's a collect call and that we should press a buttom to talk to them. It's really beginning to get on our nerves. There is also this number 1-866-238-2390 that keeps calling when we answer there is no one there. It would be great if these stupid numbers and people would stop calling. Any help would be great.

Also we live on Prince Edward Island and dont know anybody from New York.

I have gotten 4 calls from this number today. Every time I answered and there was no response on the other end. Very odd it has been going on like this for so many years.

BEWARE! This could be FBI Headquarters organizing GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS through a clearinghouse for professional KILLERS!

I had this number show up on my personal cell phone; but as I didn't know the number I did not answer.  And then the same number showed up on my work cell phone (that not one of my friend's or family have the number to) and there was no one there.  When I call back it just rings busy.  And on call-tracer it shows to be a land line in Dallas Texas.  Is this really just some random number for pay phones across the country?!

I actually found this payphone. I live in Tampa Florida and was curious how it would come up if a payphone called my cell. Ironically I decided to google the number and see what came up. It's right by a subway and a pizza parlor on Fletcher Ave in Tampa, Fl.

With everyone saying it's from different places, I wonder if there's some kind of digital service that runs through a central system somewhere.

When I tried calling it back (would have been funny for a prank) I also got a busy signal.

So, there you have it. I think I've solved this mystery ...

It is a pay phone number. It roams from connection to connection.
So you might live in Southern California but the call was picked up to connect
a roaming line from Texas or New Jersey. That is why it shows different numbers Very expensive to use that type of payphone. My family member was calling from San Diego, County. It cost 50 cents per minute.

This is a pay phone.  My husband locked his keys in his office in Oakbrook and had to call using a credit card.  As previous comments said it just roams for connection.  He was in Oakbrook and the number was a Dallas area code.
