I got one too, they CLAIM they are from Windows and that your computer is corrupted. He asked for a "serial number" at least that what I think he said, couldn't really understand him.  Informed I wasn't near my computer, so he said he would call back and was persistent on a specific time.  Guessing it's a scam.

Just received a call from this number.  Claimed he was calling from Windows and that my computer was corrupted.  I asked him where he was calling me from and was told Manchester, UK....I live in Ontario, Canada.  I told him I thought he was full of poop and he hung up on me.

Received a call from today, I didn't answer it. I don't know anyone from the 217 exchange. I don't run windows.

Just got a call from this phone number and all they asked me was " do you speak Spanish?"
I said " no" and they hung up..... Strange..

I just received a call from this number 1-217-398-9544 and it was a payphone did not answer don't know anyone that would call me from a payphone.

Just got a call from 217-398-9544 about an alleged virus or trojan on my computer. After I refused to give their "technician" access to my computer the caller who spoke with a heavy Indian accent threatened me to call the police me and put me in jail. When I asked him how does he know my IP address he told he "can't see it on his screen" but instead gave me my MAILING address, however, an old one - so he definitely did not find it on YellowPages but probably obtained it from Dell's database (he mentioned that's the address is what my computer is registered on).

Just received a call from 217-398-9544, identifying himself from Windows.  Said my computer was downloading corrupted files and viruses, wanted me to turn on my computer.  When I told him I wasn't going to do anything or provide any information to him, the line went dead.  Foreign accent, not quite sure from where, but not Hispanic.

I also got calls from that number.
It happens every year, when my phonenumber is on their "magic" list i guess.
It is like Spam-mails on the phone and you did not win any lottery or anything else they say...
They want your bankaccount numbers and codes.
Sometimes they want you to visit a fake website that will give you a virus..
So don't give them anything, don't do anything stupid - just hang up!!!

They called me from 3 numbers, but it's the same man speaking in English (with an accent from India I guess) or he asks if I can speak in Spanish (so i did and he still has a bit of an accent).

I  got a call from this # stating that they are calling from Microsoft and that they will help me remove corrupt data from my computer. They led me to a web site called TEAMVIEWER and when I saw the connection to allow remote access to my computer , I terminated the call.  I called Microsoft
and they verified that the call is bogus, they have many complaints, and that they are having the FBI investigate.  So beware.

Just now i also received al call, so they are stil making false call's

I got a call from this number today, but they hung up before I answered.

I am getting calls from this number as well as one that comes us private name private number claiming to be from Microsoft and that I had a problem with my computer.  I hung up and actually called Microsoft and they said these calls are going all over the world.  So Beware!

calls, asks for long departed employee, when told not to call again, gets hostile.
You can hear backgound call center noise.  Call comes in as "Champaign IL 217-398-9544" -- When you do not answer/ignore the call, they will call back and the caller ID will show "Withheld"

same time sep 9th 140pm. same indian guy from 217-398-9544 champaurgn,il on caller id telling me my computer is infected and they can see everthing i was doing on my computer. both my computer are protected by norton antivirus and told him so and hung up on him

This appears to be a scam, Technicans posing as representatives from Windows XP.  Needs to be investigataed by Federal government.  There is an agency that investigates these numbers for fraudlent activites. However they have access to our phone number and computer names. This is my second call from them that I did not answer.  The first was from a pay phone.  I answered it because it could be a friend in need.

Received a call from 217-398-9544, champaign Il. Hung up as soon as I answered. I could hear call center activity in the background.

Got a call from this number - automated "voice" claiming to be from dollar bank and informing me that my account had been "locked" and to unlock press 1. I hung up.  Going to notify the bank today about it. Very strange.

Another MS Windows Scam.

Just got a call at 11:35am on January 29th.  The Caller-ID said it was from Champaign, IL.  They said they were calling from Microsoft about my Windows PC.  I just told them I didn't have a Windows PC, so that was very interesting.  I hung up on the guy and immediately blocked the number on my VoIP web-UI.  Gotta love VoIP!

Please warn people not to believe these scammers!
