- WilWoman with a very heavy accent is trying to scare the )(&*)( out of you that something is wrong with your Computer/Windows Operating System. Once- not this time - I let them do their story, pretending I owned a computer with a Windows Operating System - I don't, Don't trust them, this is a huge scam! Don't get fooled.
This moment I wasn't patience enough and told them right away to stop trying to scam me ... she hung up on me.
Don't be surprised they try it again using another number! - Jill... Again| 2 repliesDifferent woman today, heavy accent, called me ma'am about 50 times, lol. Tole me the story about how my Microsoft computer is doing something with highly confidential files, she's hard to understand. I said, oh really, she said I need to ck my computer, I said I'm on my computer right now, she said you are? You are on computer right now? I said yes, an Apple computer, not Microsoft, and why I do have a windows based computer I was not going to give her access to it. She hung up on me. Of course, number doesn't work to call back.
- Oh, and replies to Jill... AgainThis is my 2nd call from this number, I also received one from a Louisiana number.
- same caller-different dayI'm glad that these folks call me on my home office line when I just happen to be in a good mood and looking to take a break from work. Heavy Indian-[***] accent telling me that my Windows OS is in great danger and that I'm accessing corrupted files and setting up for ID theft. I thank them for their concern and quick action on my behalf. I tell them that I am a little hard of hearing and could they explain the problem more slowly...and I mean V--E--R--Y SLOWLY. They probably have to repeat the info at least 5-6 times before I "understand". I then continue to ask them more open ended questions to keep them trying to "sell" me on my giving up my info. They usually either hang up or start getting abusive after 5-7 minutes. I usually end the call in mid sentence as if it were a disconnect leaving them hanging on their end. Or I will tell them that I have to get a pen and paper and to hold on as I have to go across the other side of the house. Put them on hold and go back to my spreadsheets, they usually hang up after another 3-5 minutes. If I don't have the time to goof around a little bit, I answer the call with my name and then "Microsoft Digital Crimes Field Unit". That usually results in a hang up by them.

- MelvaThis is the second time I've received a message from a person (1st time man with heavy accent) this time a woman with a heavy accent. Telling me that my computer is being hacked and that their company is going to help clean up my computer. I went to my computer and she told me to delete YAHOO and type in INSTASUPPORT 247.COM. I asked her name and she said Joanna Parker and I asked her what number could I reach her at and she gave a number but not even enough numbers to adequately call back. I got the number 217-853-3092 from my caller ID. I told her I had a friend that is a computer expert and she said he couldn't help me only I could do it. She was surprised when I told her I had a mac computer. I said I was going to notify my friend ( he is a tech person at the local university) and then I hung up.

- ToddThese persons are only trying to get money from you. First they get you to give them access to your computer with some kind of program, once they have done that you get to watch them run your mouse anywhere they want in your system telling you how many viruses it has and other problems. Then they say they will run monthly checks of your computer. After about 6 months they will call saying that there business is closing and they need to send you a refund. If you don't do what they want they will literally lock you out of your own computer by changing your password. I know because it happened to me. They got a good sum of money from me, no refund. They set up monthly payments to come out of my banking account. Had to cancel everything and start new. This is no BS!!!!!!!!! WHY CANT THEY TRACE THESE NUMBERS AND CATCH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Caller: Microsoft maintenance????
- AmyBe careful -- they will call and say you have something wrong with your computer (as others have stated) and will direct you to a website to log onto. DON'T! They will take control of your computer, lock you out, and basically "hold it hostage", until you pay them. And in most cases, you won't get your computer back (so I've heard) unless you take it in somewhere and really get it fixed. And then, they have your credit card information, etc.
Read this in a magazine, online AND there was some news story on either 20/20 or Dateline or something, too.
Had a phone call like this about 6 months ago, and this guy was pretty darned convincing! I, however, do NOT have a Windows computer like he absolutely INSISTED that I did. I'm running a MAC. But I let him go on with his little spiel. I'd hate for my mother or another elderly person to fall for something like this. So terrible!
Yes -- heavy, HEAVY Indian accent, and claiming to be from a division of Microsoft's IT Department, but didn't work directly from Microsoft.- Caller: Cell Phone, IL
