called twice in the evening, no message

I received a call saying they were from te Illinois police and wanted a 25 dollars contribution

They just called us. A character who stated his name was Brian Donovan said he was with the Illinois Firefighters Association. Something smells fishy here!

From Springfield Illinois, most likely raising funds for their own good. I need to come up with a scam like that.

Scammers. Don't reply.

Called on Sunday morning. Got my answering machine. Left no message.

They called at 8:45 on a Sunday night and said it was some sort of fundraising for police. I told them I didn't want to help out there scam and told the lady on the phone she's a [***] and to not call again. I was quite rude to them but when you call at almost 9 pm on a Sunday, its a little ridiculous.

Just called them back, and got a automated message saying how its a scam and how "punk teenagers" are using the computer to make calls and try to get peoples telephone numbers. It was a real weird automated message.

Just got a voicemail from a person with a foreign accent telling me to call this number immediately.  "It would be in my best interest".  He asks that I or my attorney call him back.  He ends the call by wishing me good luck if I ignore this call.  Just tried to call back and got a busy signal.  Amazing that the same number is used for collecting donations for an Illinois law enforcement group.  Weird.

Glad to read your post. I got the same calls. The foreign voice is recorded and what's scary is that they also called my work and had my ssn and dob. Never a live person unless I took the call and that was only once, I got suspicious right way. Reporting this to other agencies. Same threat with attorney and good luck if I didn't call.
