Got a message saying it was the irs and i need to call the number back as soon as possible and when i tried to call it was busy.

U should report that to IRS

Don't call them back.  Its not the IRS.  Probably somebody will tell you that you owe the IRS money and that you need to send them a money order or something right away or they will send the police over to arrest you.

Got the same call but I hung up as the recording was telling me what number I have to call back right away.

I received a call from these fraudulent people claiming to be the IRS, stating that I need to call them back before local authorities come and pick me up... DO NOT GIVE THESE CROOKS ANY INFORMATION. Call the real IRS and report them.

I got a call from this number stating we are IRS. I am well aware that its a scam, so I called back and they asked what #  I receive call on so I said this number I am calling from..... They hung up. I tried with my cell number and asked why u guys hanging up? They responded "WE DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU". I reported it to IRS.

    I received a messaged from the same number almost an hour ago claiming they are "IRS Hotline" and before they take legal actions against my name, I need to contact them.I have no issues w/ IRS so i know it was a scam,I was curious so I dialed the number and when I did, a guy answered stating he didn't call anybody and hung up.

We did have a confusion with our taxes earlier this year which I cleared up in the spring; when I got this telephone call I became afraid that something had gone wrong yet again.

The person who answered the phone when I called said he was with a criminal investigation unit in his little intro speech. I said I had received a call and he asked me for my number. When I told him my number he said he hadn't called me, and we hung up. He did not sound surprised.

I do wonder what the purpose of this prank, or whatever it is, is. Is someone trying to give the criminal investigation unit a hard time? If so, it would make sense for the guy who answered the phone to say so.
