One Ring Scam: Report to the BBB and your telephone carrier. They caught me in a dead sleep. I thought it was my fiancé calling that earlier in the morning from his route.Officials are saying there is a  new scam that is affecting cell phone users in East Texas and all across the country.

When you hear a cell phone ring, do you get that urge to scramble to the phone, not to miss the call? Madison Payne used to be the same way, but now, she's more careful.

"Something as simple as a nudge or hitting the answer button when you don't mean to could initially cost you," she said.

Her entire family has received calls from the same out-of country-number.

"It's not local, it's not Texas, it's not even the United States," she explained.

The phone will ring once or twice, but upon answering the caller is gone.

"What they're trying to do is get the recipient to be curious about who might have called and then the recipient calls that number back," Mechele Mills, with The Better Business Bureau of Tyler, said.

But, when you call that number back, the BBB says you'll be instantly charged a fee on your monthly statement.

"And what happens is they charge a $19.95 premium service fee plus the international call charges for as long as they're on the phone," Mill explained.

It's called "The One Ring Scam" because scammers have programmed computers to send out thousands of calls to cell phones, ring once, then disconnect before you can answer. They are preying on the victim's curiosity."

Phone number and location appears: 268-762-0012 Antigua / Barbuda. Two calls one minute apart with two rings. I did not answer the call.

I received a "one ring" call from this number and did NOT call them back.  I had already heard about this scam.  Pass it on!

I just got a call from this number as well, a sent text to the number noted that it was a landline, but I'm very glad I wasn't curious enough to call back!

GOt call from 2687620012 at 10:41PM; called it this mring to see who it was but got a recoded message.  Saw that there is a scam for this number.  WIll check bill real close next month.

Two phone calls from this number, I never answer when I see who is calling.  Did some research and found this site, so reporting it.  Thank You!

I got a from this number. It rang twice and then stopped. I heard it may be one ring scam.

got a call from this number.  got 4 in 5 days from 4 different numbers - only last 4 digits were different.  when i would answer, no one was there.  if i did not answer, there was no message.

I received a call but did not answer.. I never answer weird phone numbers. Especially after reading a lot lately about this scam! I looked it up and found this site!

In georgia. Got the call at 10 pm - 3rd time in 2 days. When I answered the phone automatically hung up. Thanks for the info will not call back.  How can you block the numbers??

Just got a call at 10:14 PM. Didn't answer but did call back due to being on call and not knowing number. Hope I'm not charged

On an iPhone 5 you look at the "Recent Calls" list, then click the ? about the call.  At the bottom of the screen is a "Block This Caller" option.
