I got a call from this number telling me it was a meeting of a Republican club in a neighboring town.  It was a recorded message.  I tried calling back and was told it was a non-working number.
I don't know why they called or how they got my number; I don't think it was a true political call.
Anyone else get this????

Heard some talking muffled in background, maybe a phone bank. Nothing said, nothing clear, and disconnected after about 7 seconds.

I got a call from this number, tried to re-dial and was also told it was a non-working number.  When I tried to use ATT call-blocking, that didn't work either.

The message identified the caller as Normarene Merritt.  I am assuming this is someone calling for politicians asking for vote

because if you do pick up, the message will play on and on and on for the
political party and will NOT release until the entire message has played.
If you needed to call 911 because a child was choking in your house,
you'd have to listne to the message first, causing precious seconds to
be lost.  Make them stop!!!

Keeps calling me, as well.  

No response, if you pickup, but you can hear noises in the background.

They identify themselves as a Republican group.

Got a call too.  Hagerstown MD.  Probably is a political call.  We have runoffs on November 30th.  If I don't recognize a number, I don't answer it.

It's the Republicans doing the robo-calling. I have asked several times to get off their calling list as I find these calls to be annoying. What they don't understand is that reasonable people like myself have decided to NEVER vote for ANY Republican based on their sleazy, annoying tactics.

location for this number was Hagerstown,Maryland. They left a political messgae to vote for Charlotte Nash, a goofball running for Chairman in Gwinnett Cty, Ga.

Must be froma politcal supporter that has a vested interest in Ms. Nash. Election is Tues 3/15/11

Do what I did...change your greeting on your answering machine:

WE CAN'T TAKE YOUR CALL SO PLEASE LEAVE US A MESSAGE AND YOUR NUMBER. IF YOU ARE A TELEMARKETER, DON'T BOTHER, MULTIPLE CALLS WILL BE TRACKED AND REPORTED TO THE FCC AND THE STATE'S ATTOURNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE FOR HARRASSMENT.

IF YOU WISH TO SEND US SOMETHYING, SENDIT IN THE REGULAR MAIL ALONG WITH YOUR FEDERAL TAX ID NUMBER...THANK YOU

This has eliminated 97% of the crank robo calls and telemarketers.  They usually hang up when they get to the "MULTIPLE CALLS WILL BE TRACKED AND REPORTED TO THE FCC AND THE STATE'S ATTOURNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE FOR HARRASSMENT"...

They always end up hanging up when they hear the request for the FERDERAL TAX ID NUMBER...which they will not give you nor do they have.  Any legit organization will gladly send you something in writing with the Fed Tax ID.  You then have the option to read it and then trash it.

Then, on occasions, if I do answer and there is dead silence on the phone, I say: YOU CALLED ME, I DIDN'T CALL YOU...Then I say - THIS CALL IS BEING RECORDED AND HAS BEEN TRACED AND LEGAL ACTION IS BEDING TALKEN AGAINST YOU, THE CALLER.  Then I hang up.

Be aware of multiple calls form the same people from various numbers.  With the ON LINE phone records via your internet/cable providers, they can provide a list of numbers that have been placed to your phone and they make a perfect package to send to the "Organization" that is harassing you along with a note that these numbers have been forward to a lawyer, the FCC, the State Attny General's Office, AND ALLTHE LOCAL TV STATIONS TO INVESTIGATE THEM FOR FRAUD AND HARRASSMENT.  Those multiple calls are very far and few between for now!

Unfortunately, political advertisements and apparently charities are excluded from the Do Not Call regs.

Since I despise what the Republicans are doing to this country, the positive thing about this call is that they (1) aren't connecting with someone who shares their warped view of reality and (2) they waste their money every time they call me.

Let them spend their money, all they are doing is annoying us and using up their resources in the process.
