I got a call that my brother had gotten in a bad accident and had hit someone that was running from the police and was told not to call the police to report the accident.  Apparently, my brother called the police anyway and the guy pulled a gun and beat him with it, then called his friends to take him to the projects in Humbolt park where they were waiting for me to come with $1000.

We just got a call from this number that said my wife's brother was in a bad accident also. However, we got disconnected in the middle of the call, so hopefully it is just some terrible scam.

The same thing that's been happening to other folks here happened to me - some guy calls my phone, tells me that my brother (I don't have a brother) got into a terrible accident and that he was at gunpoint, blah blah, etc. etc.

The guy tried to make me think it was my dad, and so I actually called my dad on his cellphone through Google Voice - he picked up, was just fine, no harm done to him, was asleep the entire time.
It's funny how easy it is to debunk these scammers.

I received a call on my cell phone from 312-206-5134 today that my husband had instructed the caller to call me following a car accident that he had just been in.  The caller told a story that while at a gas station, my husband reversed his vehicle into this person's drug-dealing brother's vehicle (a BMW).  The caller was the "good" brother calling to fix the situation, that as long as we "worked together" to get his thug brother $800 in cash to repair the bumper damage, that he would let my husband go.  If I didn't get the money to him or respond in some way, that his brother would shoot my husband; if I made any attempt at calling or texting my husband, then he would be harmed by the thug brother, and this was going to be the only way out of this.  Any time I asked questions about my husband, 'can you tell me what he looks like? what kind of car was he driving?' the caller would flare his temper and threaten that something would happen to my husband.  Emergency fund scams are out there and they're being revamped to make you feel like your loved one might actually be in danger, and that their safety is in your hands.  Beware, and have a plan of action in place between you and your loved ones on what you will do when contacted (ie., utilizing alternate modes of contact to verify their whereabouts, etc.).

Got a call that my brother or father was in a terrible car accident. That they have him in the projects in waldorf Md ( There is no projects in waldorf md) That his brother car was hit and his nephew was injured. I asked well why didnt you call the police. The caller stated they didnt want to get the police involved because his brother was on the run. They just wanted the car fixed. That my family member tried to call the police ad his brother hit him in the head with a gun. I said ok well where do I come. He said your not going to see me I can give you a name and a address and you going to send $600 western union. So I said this has to be a scam only a dummy would call on there own phone when something like this is happening you could easily have your number traced, and we could get your exact location.  Caller disconnected the call

I am from Waldorf maryland and we have projects there.  But...  I received a call today from this same number. Said my husband was in accident. Barely breathing clinging to life, he was afraid to call police because the was the Good brother trying to keep the situation from getting out of control.

He named color of car and general appearance of my husband. Obviously lucky guess since it is a scam. Wanted money or he would be killed.  Called the police, they cant do anything. They advised to hang up the phone.

Got a call that my family member was in a terrible car accident. There were 2 cars and an SUV involved, My wife drives SUV.  They said they took her to his sister's apartment because she could not find her insurance card. They said the accident was in Frederick,Md.  and my wife hit his brother-in law's car, his nephew in the back seat was injured but my wife is fine. I asked for the location of the accident, that I was friends of the Frederick County police chief and would send a police car. The caller stated they didn't want to get the police or insurance involved. They just wanted the car fixed. They said if I tried to call the police or call my wife's cell phone I would never see her again. I said "you just F*#@ed up, You called the wrong phone to make a threat, you are a dead Mother F*#@er". I hung up! They called back and I notified them I was a cop. I finally got a hold of my wife and daughter and they are both fine. I tried to call the Cowardly, Punks back but they did not answer and their voice mail was full. I text-ed them and and left a friendly massage.

So clearly someone has WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS. I got the call yeaterday morning. I got the call just as I was dropping my son off at school. The caller (a male) asked if i had a husband, i replied no I'm single. He then said Oh ok wel a brother, father, a male family member. I said yea why, he never gave me the name of my relative after several tims of my having asked him, so I gave him my dads name and he goes "YEA ITS GLENN, HE MESSED UP MY BROTHERS CAR", he proceeded to tell me that my father had been in a three car accident, all being my fathers fault, and that his brother's 'BRAND NEW BMW' (as if i gave a crap about what kind of car it was) had been totaled. When I asked what the name. I told him that I would call him back. I immediately called my dad and he was at home, which i already knew that he was and told him what had happened....yea we figured it was a scam. I eventually called back several hours later and it we to a voice mail box that has not been set up.

If the prank caller is reading this, get a life, job, or do something other than terrorize people and their emotions as it pertains to their family members. Karma is a BIG [***] and that will in some way shape or form manifest its self onto you and your family.

I also received a call this morning, much like the above calls. The caller told me that there was a 3 car accident and that a male relative of mine was involved and he was given my number. I asked where this happened and he said in front of a gas station. He also said his brother was a gang member and drug dealer and that they didn't want to involve the cops. He asked if my father drove an suv and I said that my boyfriend does, but that he is at home. I asked again where the accident happened and he said on 495 (in Mass). I said that isn't possibile because I live in Colorado. He asked if I had relatives in Mass and I said yes. He said it was my father, but I replied that there is no way he would be in that area. He then said to someone in the back ground "put the gun down" and that they "don't want any problems"  He said to give him my father's name and they would verify if it was him. I told him to get the name of the person in the car and I would let him know if that was my father. Everytime I asked for details or a specific location he was unable to provide me answers and when I questioned how he knew the damage was $600 already, while people were "bleeding and hurt badly" he got angry and said he was trying to do the right thing. I told him I would contact my father and call him back and hung up.

My 72 yera old mother just got a call and was totally freaked out.  The story was similar, they told her her son had been in a car accident...couldn't talk to her and if she didn't do what he asked her they were going to kill him.  Beware similar "emergency" scams.
