Many calls from this number, no message left.  This morning I picked up and there was an actual person, asking me if I was satisfied with the SF Chronicle I'd recently subscribed to, then asked for a credit card# to pay for the subscription that I've already paid for.  Very suspicious. I refused and ended call.

I got this voice mail from that number:

Hello, this is a service verification. We will call you back later. Thank you

same on this end -- let voice mail grab it, and there was a message about "service verification" and I have no business with anyone ANYWHERE via my cellular phone.

This number is being reported immediately to the FCC complaint site -- I just hope it is an actual number, and not a spoofed number.

do not pick up the phone if this number appears. what they want is your credit card number ..... they are crooks... and want nothing else. they may say they represent some newspaper or magazine.. do not respond.  if they mention either one call the subscription dept of newspaper or magazine and tell them about such a call. i also had a letter a bill from someone saying they were for our newspaper and the amount they wanted was double the yearly amount i called the newspaper and they told me they are a fraud do not respond . just do not pick up and they will some day stop calling.. . at least i dont' have a cell phone  ..alsways check strange numbers on google like this one..

This number has been calling me a couple of times, i never answer... they called again.. and I answered very angrily thinking it was some political fielding/call. This very soft-spoken, little girl sounding person was asking me about my recent 'chronicle' subscription... I'm like... "wait.. what chronicle.. the SF Chronicle... yeah I just ordered that. Sorry I answered so angrily.. I dont answer numbers from strange area codes, if it were important wouldnt you leave a vmail." "sorry, mr. pham.. hehe.. im not sure about that.. did the paper arrive as you planned." "yes.. it did". "Mr. Pham, will you be paying your subscription by mastercard or visa" "I'm not giving any credit card information over the phone." (I was thinking, I'm pretty sure I already paid online) "oh okay, well thank you mr pham." *click. .... WTF?!

I did order the sf chronicle from a discount website... I hope that's not how they stole my info.

I have been getting calls on my cellphone from this number for the past 4 days. The first two times I picked up and answered, but no one answered me back. So figured it was just someone who realised they had the wrong number after they heard me answer.
BUT, they kept calling. I got calls from them at around 10am and 6pm. I was unable to answer them because I was at work. This morning they called again, and I answered, but I waited a bit before I said hello, and this woman with a strong mid-western accent asked me if my recent chronicle subscription had arrived as planned. I had indeed recently subscribed to the SF Chronicle, so I said yes. Then she asks me if I'd like to pay for it by credit card. I said I'd already paid for it (since I clearly remember doing so and seeing the charge show up in my bank account). She said oh alright, have a nice day and if you have any questions contact... and she gave me the number for the SF chronicle.
Seemed suspicious so I looked up the number.

It probably is someone fishing for credit card info. I do wonder how the got my number and info though. I got my Chronicle subscription from a discount website as well.

I heard a woman yapping in the background and then I got a prerecorded message something like this: "This is a service verification call. We will call you back."

Got a call from this number last night, with the recorded message "This is a service verification...." I don't subscribe to the SF Chronicle, so it's not just that.

Caller ID said something about Verification From...I let it go to voice mail...they left a message saying they would call back later.  Don't bother!

this numbers calls me too. same message as I always let it go to voice mail. I don't get the SF chronical as I am on the east coast. I will continue to ignore it.  My thoughts when I don't know the number: If it is a legitimate call they will leave a real voice mail message with a real number for me to call them back. And identify themselves.

This call was to verify that my newspaper subscription had been restarted following a vacation hold. I get this call every time I put a vacation hold on the newspaper. It seems legitimate, if unnecessary.
