Just got a call from this number too

Its Verizon lol

I am a former Verizon customer but do not have an account with them currently. I received a call today from (323) 404-9261. I let it go to voicemail, and there was an automated recording saying this was the "Verizon Wireless Message Retrieval System", and for me to call (800) 249-2462 for a message about "my account".

I then called the real Verizon Customer Service Number listed on their website, (800) 922-0204, and they confirmed that this call was fraudulent and this number is not associated with Verizon Wireless. They said they have been getting lots of similar reports lately.

We also got two calls from 323.404.9261 with in just a few hours of each other. They did not however leave a message.. But I did get an additional text also, it said:

FREE MSG: Account status change notification. Please visit http://mobile.vzw.com/paybill or call us today at 800 249 2462 for more information.

Same here just now got that call

I just received a call from 323-404-9261 with a very convincing message.

The message requested me, by name, to call 800-249-2462, then said 'you will be asked to enter your Verizon Wireless Number, ###-###-#### (my number).'

I work in IT security and knew this was a SCAM, but ... it was very convincing.

I called 611, got through to Verizon Security, they tested the numbers and agreed this is a SCAM.  The numbers were blacklisted.

Be careful! Be suspicious if the call, text, email etc aren't from someone you know.

Received the call 2 times within seconds. They left a message. I did not investigate it any further than finding this site to read about it and report it. 1-800 249 2462

Message left was a recording, "Said they want to hear from me at Verizon within the next 24 hours about a change going into affect.

Got at least three calls from this number in 24 hours.  Recording said wit was Verizon calling about a change to my account.  then said "If this is Winnie (?) Incorporated, press1.  If not, press 2"  Didn't want to press any buttons before investigating further.

Called saying Verizon bill is past due... service will be interrupted if payment not made today.
SCAMMERS!!

The call from 323-404-9261 is a LEGITIMATE phone call from Verizon Wireless or it's debt collection agency. They also send a text message. If you haven't paid your bill or owe money on an old account, they want you to pay. Those who keep saying that it is a scam probably owe Verizon Wireless. How would a random scam artist know that you are past due on your Verizon Wireless bill? Seriously!!!

Call Verizon's FINANCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT to verify and don't just speak to a regular customer service rep because half the time they don't know what they are talking about.

they had my name and no. I called Verizon and my last payment made at store kiosk was not recorded, I have receipt. Going to check in to it further. ARGH!

yup,got a call today same message and tried to report it to verizon but apparently their fraud div is NOT open nights or weekends..LOL..of course not, but if I wanted TOO BUY services tons of sales folks were avail. so I just reported this situation to MY AT&T fast and friendly customer support person who took care of things FAST! NOW THATS What I LIKE> Fast, friendly, efficient and AVAILABLE!

its a california area code that goes to  voice mailboxes. But its calling people who do NOT have VERIZON ACCTS..WHY waste time to have an automated unit call you to tell you it concernes YOUR account and then asks you to enter your VERIZON acct/ phn #...that you do not have???

Agree that this is Verizon and is legit. Was followed by text message, when I checked my account through VZ website my girlfriend hadn't paid her part and it was overdue...

I agree. 323-404-9261 is legitimate. It called left no message. Then got a text to remind me to pay my bill. Received a confirmed text. Then the number called again I'm sure to say they received pymt. Definitely from Verizon. Verizon is made up of many departments; they do not communicate with each other.

I just got my first phone and if runs on minutes from tracfone and I got this call today so it must be a scam.
