Whenever I get a call from a long distance number I do not recognize, I NEVER take the call.  I know
it will be a scam.  It is called phishing - they call everyone, sometimes just to verify it is a working number.
If It is legitimate, they can leave a message.

Said they were Wells Fargo and that I lost my debit card. Might have believed them if that was my bank

I agree! If I don't recognize the number I don't pick it up! And yes, if it's important they should or would leave a message.

Got a call from this number today saying my credit card had been locked and they needed my card information and last four digits of my social security number. Obviously a scam. Don't fall for it.
