Tried to steal money using families name and saying false statements saying they got in an accident needing money.

Called and said he knew me and was my cusing tried to say he shared the same last names.

*DO NOT PICK UP FROM THIS NUMBER* Got a call from this number but since I didn't recognize it I let it go to voicemail. I heard a spanish voice but couldn't really make out what they were saying until I heard " los voy a matar a todos", Spanish for I'm gonna kill them all and then it cut off. Not sure if this was a joke or not but I'm gonna report it to the police.

Do not pick up this phone number! It is a scam and this very strange man answers in Spanish. We received two calls twice in the past 10 minutes. I stupidly answered the "out of area" number because we have family in Mexico and it usually has random numbers on the caller ID whenever anyone calls from there. My grandma is currently in Mexico so I thought it was her or maybe an aunt or uncle. With this in mind I answered and a guy answered back in Spanish. He immediately asked for "prima" which means cousin. I instantly realized he must have thought he was speaking to my mother so I identified that it was actually her daughter and I gave him my name and said my mother was in the shower. And he said in Spanish "Ahh okay I'll call back later then." So I let my mother know and she got worried about my grandma and said if they called backed she'd answer. Again the same number calls about 5 minutes later and the same man picks up. I tell him that it's still me and that my mother just got out of the shower. So he says to pass it to her and I do and this is the conversation in English:
Mom: "Hello?"
Man: "Hey cousin how are you?"
Mom: "Fine but who is this?"
Man: "Your cousin!"
Mom: "Who?"
Man: "From out of state. Out of California"
Mom: "I have several cousins from out of state."
Man: "Aunt, don't you know who this is?"
Mom: "What? Who is this?"
Man: *makes noise of frustration and hangs up*

See how he says one minute he's a cousin and then he goes on to say he is really a nephew. Made no sense and luckily my mother caught on quick to this guy. He probably wanted money or something but I noticed in the background you can hear several people talking as well which was odd. Will be reporting this to the police later today.
