- santiago| 3 repliesReceived a scam phone call on April 18/12, from a woman claiming to be from Microsoft Support Services regarding a virus report, and this was the callback number provided.
- Caller: Microsoft
- BillJust recieved a call from a man named Mike with a heavy indian accent claiming to be with microsoft support services. Told me my computer had downloaded heavily encrypted files that would wipe out my hard drive and was unstopable with antivirus. caller ID says Cyberastro12 which is an astrology website.
- Caller: Cyberastro12
- BobKept them on the phone for awhile, "following" their instructions. It's pretty funny, they have you look at event viewer and tell you the results are all because of corrupted files that only they can remove. then they have you look at system INF files, another indicator of corruption that they need to repair. Finally I was directed to their website www.ammyy.com. I told her my computer blue-screened and said it was shutting down. She said to wait a second (apparently it's not in their script book to blue screen so she had to find out what to say), and when she put me on hold, I disconnected the call.
Initial claim was that it was Microsoft Support Services.

- SueDamn... my BF said I should let them access my computer against what I felt in my gut was not the thing to do ... so did it. Now they call and want me to increase my coverage, when the number 1 appears on my caller ID, I don't pick up nor do they leave a message. What a mistake.

- Ontario, Canada replies to santiago| 2 repliesI just had a 'Brian O'Connor' call me saying I had error and viruses on my computer, I asked for his number as the connection was terrible. Phone # 1-347-468-9607 calling from Microsoft Word.
The interesting fact about this call is that it came in 2 hours after I had spoken with a lady from Dell about a Word program issue and she had the same accent as 'Brian O'Connor' did!!!
Needless to say, I believed this to be a scam. - Ontario, Canada replies to Ontario, Canada| 1 replyJust had a second call from these same scam operators about 5 hours after I received the first call, this time the guys name was 'Ricky'. Unfortunately Dell and many other large companies have other countries (i.e. India) handling their calls and these countries offer no security protection to customers in North America.
- otto replies to Ontario, CanadaThe thing is folks is not one of the computer companies will "Initiate" a call....it has to come from you. Anything else is plain and simple a SCAM call. Don't believe anything these dweebs try to convince you of.
- AlexGot a call from that number, it was a certain Gis Si from the Windows service departement, he new my CLSID number and my name...Said someone was using my ID to do criminal activities... I became very suspicious when he asked me to download stuff from internet (http://mwgs.webs.com/).
- Caller: Scam?
- BrianWell they are still out there and going strong. They are still using the same line about massive threats to the computer, just told them no problem I'll just reformat and reload the hard drive. The fellow who called here has a very strong East Indian accent.
- Caller: Claim to be Microsoft Security
- DedeI don't kown anything about computers and now I have a dead computer and asking for a password that the Indian man name Daddy Jones wants a ME too pay $199 to get it back up. Can anyone help? I have to do online classes. RRRRRRRRR lost everything
- Caller: Microsoft
- DMJust received a call from the above number saying my Microsoft licence was hacked, called herself Nancy #9011 and wanted access to me computer, did not give it. Actually looked number up and found this, thank you. Asked to speak to supervisor, got the same thing, wanted to access my computer, would shut it down if they could not access it to fix it, never let them get that far. As I was informed that Microsoft does not contact people over the phone!!!!!
- Caller: Microsoft Support Services
- NVGot a call this week from a David Parker with an Indian accent claiming to be from the Windows Service Center. Apparently we had been hacked and our Windows license was being used in China, Japan, and Ukraine. He called out a license number and said if that was our number then we had been hacked. We told him that was not our license number and then he asked us to give him the license number we have. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I got another guy with the same Indian accent. When I told him I would not give him the license number, he started threatening that my computer will be shut down within 15 minutes and the cops were going to show up at my door because I had been hacked. In what world does that make ANY sense? Once he realized that we had figured him out he got hostile and started cursing at us. Smh.
- Caller: Windows Service Center
- AJM| 1 replyHe is still at it, said his name was Ricky. Just received a call with exactly the same issue and exactly the same claim purporting to represent Microsoft Support Services. I dumped his call twice and he even called back a third time. I did advise him that since I would be shut down within 30 minutes and would never again be able to access the internet that he call me back in 60 minutes and we could continue the discussion - surprise, surprise no call back and no internet lifetime block.
- bob replies to AJMI think I can track this person...by any chance do you deal with rogers
