Told guy i couldnt understand him and he told me to f*$K off(asked him if i heard him correctly and he spelled it out) and then i asked him to talk to his superviser and he hung up. Identified himself as U.S. goverment and had very heavy accent. Maybe this is a small part of whats wrong with our goverment, they hire people with no moral standing that think they can do what they want.

What is this, they call and say I have been approved for $$k and ask me to call some other number and ask me to give a deposit of $200. she said she is calling me from federal grants office, Washington D.C.
Some kind of joke??

I got a call from this number - he informed that the government picks 20 people to openly give money to.  The amount mentioned to me was $10,000.  Of course, I got a little excited at first.  This person had a thick accent, and I could hardly understand him.  He asked me if there was a Western Union not far from me, and request that I go there and send them $200, the "grant fee".

In my opinion: first of all, there is no such thing as a "grant fee".  Secondly, if I am applying for a grant most likely I don;t have money for the fee.  Thirdly, understanding how the government loves red tape, I would expect a long process and them dragging it out.  Also, the government would not ask for Western Union.

My suggestion to others is to be smart like me, and don't engage.

Got several calls from this number ;caller name was " justin smith". I was selected as part of a demographic study preformed by the "federal government" which allowed me to receive "$10,000 in grant money". I was instructed to go to the nearest Western Union service  provider and send $200.00
verification deposit. In lue of me not having the complete amount I would be allowed to send $100.00.
The last call provided me with a charity name Indo-American Charity Foundation requesting the same $100.00 as a donation prior to receiving to $10,000.00 cash amount. I was also provided with a number (202)657-5284 ask for  (1) justin smith or (2) john . These people were to coach me while at the Western Union. First call I was instructed to send the money to India. The second call the money was to be sent to 200 Independent Ave. SW Washington DC 20201.

Been called by this number twice now, never answered it because I didn't recognize the number. Looked for the area code in the phone book, it's not a US number. Red flag. From what I've read in other posts I won't be answering if they call again. Some kind of scam for sure.

This is a total scam.  Do not give them any information about you. they say that they are from the U.S. governement and that you have been chosen to receive stimulus money BUT you have to wire them money first for a finders fee usually $200-$400. I just said "Great, Send me the check" and they hung up

Please call the Federal Trade Commission and file a report I already did and they asked me to tell anyone else to do the same.

I got a call from this number and she said I have been approved for $7800 and ask me to go to near by Western Union and call them from cell phone to get more details. She asked me to carry $200 for deposit. She said she is calling me from federal grants office, Washington D.C.

I just received a call from this number and I went off on him. He said I won some money and asked me about $ 200 to be sent from western union. I asked did he know how stupid he sounds? and I told him what loser would send money to get money? He sounded like he was getting ready to cry...I would have posted the names I called him but don't want kids to see that and I don't have enough room on this message..Let's see if he calls again!

OK 9th time getting this call in a week an a half from 354-879-5865..said they are from the u.s government free grant money...that they select 50,000 people to receive  this money..but say that you have to go to a Western union and you need your cell phone,I.D, and the best part $225.00 deposit to receive 7,800.00 for free.. but they also say that you will get that money back..they said the 225 is to prove that it is you...last time i checked that's what i I.D is for!! how can they tell that from a money order?..but good news is i have an uncle that works with the F.B.I an told me its not from the U.S that most likely its from Indonesia..an yes its likely a scam!!..so if you would like to know more look at www.FBI.gov...oh an if you do try to call the number back you will get..the number you have dialed is not in service please check the number an try again!!!..goes to show fake...if it was the U.S goverment at least someone or an answering machine would have picked up!!!

So funny! I just received a call from this number. And I think it is scam too. So I searched in Google and found this site. Thanks to the upper comments!

The guy on the phone asked me to pay $ 225 and get $ 7800 grant money. He wanted me to call 202-621-0076 and get my "grant" verified. 202-621-0076 is actually a phone number in Washington. So I think these people must have some division in Washington.

The most funny part is when I could not hear clearly what his name was, the guy got a little angry and yelled at me. At that moment, I think he is cute, ha.

This lady Named Sara Jones, (american name), but had a thick accent could hardly understand what she was saying informed me I was selected to receive 7,800 in grant money. Said don't gamble, drink, or buy any illegal substances with the money. Told me to go to the nearest Western Union, take my cell phone, picture id and 225$. I told her this was a scam nobody pays for government grant money, she then starts talking about how if it were a scam why would she give her name and employee id number and work address, claiming to be a verification officer. Said once I got to western Union to call 202-621-0076 and they would walk me through the process. She caught herself up because she said once you get your 7,800 and 225$ back I would have a total of 8,225, I'm thinking no the amount should be 8,025$, but anyway this is definitely a scam, please don't be silly and send them your hard earned money..

Fyi... Google voice will allow a person to... "create" a presence...
... Ie: get a number with a particular area code... N forward those calls to a real number...

I got this called yesterday and this guy with a heavy accent told me that he worked for the U.S. Government Agency and he told me that I was randomly selected for a grant of $7800. When I tried to get his name and phone number, he told me that his name was "John Smith" and his phone number was (202) 621-0076 and he called he from 354-879-5865 which I found really odd. I told the guy if I can call him another day but he insisted to call him back the same day and then later on the day another i received another phone number of a female with a heavy accent questioning me if my email was correct. I told her who was she and she shouted at me saying if my email was correct. I told her once more who was she with my voice louder and firmer and she hanged up me. I've been receiving 25 different area codes from the same guy and I knew right away that it was a scam.

This number keeps calling me. When I asked the girl to stop calling me she said she cant stop calling me because its important stuff. I told her if she and her company does not stop calling me, I will go to the police and I hung up. So I want to know how they got our numbers in the first place and how can we stop them?

They just call me 5 mins ago with the same story. How can we stop them and how did they get our numbers in the first place?
