They called to tell me I had been chosen to receive a Free $8,000.00 Government Grant ... they gave me an Approval # & Security # telling me to call back on this number to give those #s to another person. I was told I needed to buy a Green VISA/Debit Card for $4.95, then add $200.00 on it ... Call them back with that information so they could automatically transfer my $8,000.00 on the card, at which time I could go to my back to deposit into my account. All this with the understanding that I was not going to use it for illegal use! Sounds like a SCAM of some kind to me. What do you think?

I just received the same call. It sounds really sketchy but at the same time I did apply for grants in the past but never got a phone call. And if it really was a government thing why would they be calling from a private number at first? I don't know the whole thing sounds fake... As much as I would love $8,000...

Also I said what if I didn't have $200 and they asked me if I could borrow it from someone if it was a government grant place I don't think they would make us do that. I say it's a scam.

Just got a call. Pretty sure it's a scam. If the government has money for you, you would get written confirmation. And if you have not applied for anything, then they surely wouldn't be calling you on the phone to give away "free" money. IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS......

They just contacted me as well saying to call this number back. It was a guy named "Eric Jones" with a thick foreign accent stating the same thing about the "once in a lifetime" government grant check for $8,000 dollars. I never called the number because I figured that it was a scam.

feeling like this is a scam. they said it was a chance for a $8,000 grant.
I thought it was weird because they had deep accents and loud noises in the background of the call.
I dont think the gov't would be giving me money this way, especially without anything written.

We just got the same call refused to ask for any personal information. ( quick question I always ask) gave me this call back number and ask if I would call back,  id they told me to get the Green dot Money Pak card and call them back with the information  scam if it were the government 1. they already have all my information 2. they have to notify you in writing of any transaction
This is such a scam do not get the card and give anyone information so they can take any money off of it.  Green Dot Money Pak will not refund anything if yo are scammed.

An unknown # first called me and told me that I had been selected for an $ 8,000 government grant. Then gave me the 360-780-3796 # to call. I had the feeling that our was a scam but I proceeded to call the number. After asking me to go buy the card at CVS or family dollars I told him that he was a thief and that I won't do what he asked. He started saying crazy things like he will lick my tiddis and he said some vulgar stuff. I hung up. A few seconds, he called back saying some more vulgar stuff and saying he wants to f me. I pity their souls and I pray God that they get caught.

Same as others.  Received this same call.  Had my name and address, but nothing that isn't public record.  Offered 8000 dollar grant to be used as I saw fit.  Heavy, heavy accent...Indian or middle eastern.  Almost not understandable.  Gave a "confirmation code" and a security number.  Had to call back a different number.  Obvious scam.  They have some information, Don't let that fool you.  Your name and address is as easy to find as picking up the white pages.  Doesn't mean they're legitimate.
    • Caller: who cares, it's a scam.
