- kevin| 5 repliesWhy would an out of state walgreens call me
- Caller: walgreens
- Rmt| 10 repliesI missed it but they didn't leave voice mail. I always find that suspicious
- Ryan replies to Rmt| 9 repliesWalgreens Refill Reminder Calls. This is a centralized and automated service from Walgreens, so the calls won't come from your local Walgreens. This service has been in place for about 4 months now. The calls were coming from 800-289-1179, but Walgreens was unalbe to tie a caller ID to that number. They switched to the new number so that customers with caller ID would now see "WALGREENS REFIL". The service will not leave a message on the first attempt, but upon a second missed attemp they will leave you the 800 number to call back if you like.
Great service for ordering your prescriptions that are about to run out. - Rookaloo| 2 repliesAfter reading comments on 800 Notes, I'm note sure this really is Walgreens. They want people to refill prescriptions they never had and want their Social Security numbers.
- Caller: Walgreens

- sharleywho called me?
- JJ replies to RyanAt this location the caller ID doesn't show "WALGREENS REFIL". Caller ID shows 402-220-1100 OMAHA NE..No message left on machine
- Nick| 6 repliesMessage said to call within 48 hours to retrieve a message from Walgreens refill service. I tried calling back three times and was disconnected each time as soon as I entered the cell phone number I was calling from. I think it's a scam to get you to confirm a valid cell phone number. If it was Walgreens, why would they hang up on me; wouldn't they want to know which prescription to fill, Ryan?
- John replies to RookalooRookaloo,
Walgreens will never ask for you SSN, however they will ask for your birthday to verify its you.
You might want to listen to the message again. - Craig| 2 repliesNever-never-never give personal info to incoming callers - don't give them any information - no matter if it's some remote caller for Walgreens or not - don't give any information to any unsolicited callers - if and when you need a refill - call your local pharmacy yourself - and always-always-always only verify required information in person upon pickup of your meds!!!

- CAROL| 1 replyThis is Walgreens they only ask you for your date of birth to make sure you are the person receiving the medication for refill it is a legit number
- Caller: WALGREENS
- Call type: Event reminder
- E & NYes, Walgreen's does use this for refill reminders. I called the Walgreen's in AZ which we use in the winter and had them take our cell number out of their database. I trust these calls will now cease.
- Caller: Walgreen's
- mrgeIt is a prescription reminder from Walgreens, I called them, but also told them it was a stupid idea because my local Wallgreens has all my info and I WOULD NOT give it over the phone. You can call them and request your name be removed from their call list.
I do not give personal info over the phone ever!- Caller: Walgreens
- Call type: Event reminder
- Georgette BordineCurrently I am not expecting any precription refills, and don't understand why this number, which claims to be from Walgreens, keeps calling me several times a day for days in a row. I get my prescriptions at Walgreens, but I always physically go to the nearest store. I don't call them or order anything on-line. I m getting really annoyed because the calls come on my cell phone during the day, and I am on the do-not-call-list.
- Caller: Walgreens?
- Call type: Telemarketer
- LauraJust received a call from this number, and I don't pick-up calls from numbers I don't know. They didn't leave a message either.
- LisaA message left from Walgreens telling me to call them back- # from NE. I called my own Walgreens in Plymouth, MN and they said that their is no history of walgreens calling me, or from any other walgreens. And when calling this number back they wanted personal information, such as birthdate and SSN. I did not give them it obviously...probably a scam
- Caller: walgreens
- Deb replies to kevinIt is Walgreen's Rx Reminder Service. I called their 800# (listed on their web page) to opt out of these calls. I was told by a CSR that our name/# was not in their database to receive reminder calls, so she couldn't remove it. She was very nice, however, and offered to escalate my complaint to tech support. Tech Support can remove telephone #s of people who don't want this service. I also asked her to communicate to her supervisors that others have complained online.
- shak replies to Ryan| 4 repliesIn fact, refill pick-up reminders do come from your local Walgreens store. Yes, it is an automated system, but Walgreens does not use out-of-state call centers to verify or communicate anything; if you receive a genuine call from Walgreens, it will be generated from the actual location that you order your prescriptions through. The call you received from (402) 220-1100 (or others) claiming to be from Walgreens actually came from a collection company. Moreover, this collection company is in clear violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) (federal law governing collection practices) and needs to be reported. In one way or another, this collection company gained access to Walgreen's patient database (yet another violation of federal law) and is trying to use it to gain access to debtors, which is patently illegal in numerous ways. Anyone receiving calls from this number should contact their local Walgreens store and report it. Walgreens does not want to be involved in any illicit activity, believe me. No, I do not work for Walgreens, but I used to be in the collections business and know a little about what can and cannot be done to find debtors. This sleazy practice will continue unless or until people start reporting it; people tend to be lazy and blow off stuff like this, which will only exacerbate the situation. Call Walgreens now and report these violations of federal law.
Concerned Citizen in Oklahoma - Shak in Oklahoma replies to kevinKevin,
The answer to your question is because it was collection company posing as Walgreens. They acquired your contact information in violation of multiple Federal laws and are using it to attempt to make contact with you. Call Walgreens and report it immediately. Good luck!
The Walgreens automated telephone system, and any automated system for that matter, cannot ask for personal information due to HIPAA mandates forbidding such queries.
