Caller ID just said Long Distance. Rang twice. I picked it up, said "hello" once and there was no reply so I hung up.

I assume it was a telemarketer -- hopefully it was just a misdialled number. My ring tone came up as long distance, not "unknown". This number appears to originate in Atlanta.

you to sign up with a card called "HARDSHIP" .... I hung up after that

Caller hung up after 4 rings.  If this is a VISA/MasterCard call, then isn't this telemarketing?

Some nonsense left on my machine about getting out of debt if you have over $10,000 in unsecured debt. Weird, since we don't have any credit cards in this household and are on the do-not-call list.

Got a call from this number (404-891-6935) today. No msg left. Caller ID showed as "Debt Solns WCA". I don't know about the "W", but I'm going to assume the full name is Debt Solutions "W" Collection Agency unless I find out otherwise. Since I've been getting calls from collector A** H***s for almost eight years for someone who doesn't live here.

    Consumer alert: Debt reduction companies
Beware of “too good to be true offers”

Ottawa, January 10, 2012 – The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) today issued a Consumer Alert on debt reduction companies. FCAC is warning Canadians: Be very cautious about companies that claim they can negotiate a deal with your creditors so that you will have to pay only part of your debt. This process is often called “debt reduction,” “debt settlement,” “debt relief” or “debt negotiation.”

Consumers who are looking for information on dealing with their debt will find tips on getting out of debt on FCAC's website at fcac.gc.ca
