- GEORGE| 1 replyBe careful. These people are not debt collectors. This is a gang of scammers. They try to collect all your personal information. They use different phones and different technics. They have already cheated lots of innocent people. They pose as an IRS Agent, Debt collector or Medical equipment seller or Credit card . Never pay on phone. Confirm with your IRS office or UTILITY or whatever Name they tell. These people will drain your money from your bank account. Do not be afraid. Hang the phone and call police.

- Jilly replies to GEORGEHi. That's really good info. I also receive strange phone numbers, some spoofed, from all over the country. I ignore them because if they are answered, my phone # will end up on a list to sell to anyone with the cash.
As others have said, if it's important, they would leave a message. - Jilly replies to Mad as HxxxHi, Mad as Hxxx, a person can "spoof" a phone number, even if invalid, on a computer. It's called Voice Over Internet Protocol, I believe.
Don't answer strange calls and it might help get you off some scammer's list.
