- LeeLoe| 2 repliesJust now, and when I tried to call it back it said "the number you have dialed is not is service, please check the number and dial again." and it was not the normal operator voice.
How can a number 'not in service' call me?
I don't think it was malicious, but annoying.- Caller: Unknown
- Bob replies to LeeLoeSame thing just happened to me. No answer, then 'phone number not in service' when I called the number.
Don't know how to rid the world of people like this. SEAL Team 6 seems like a good idea!! - Indianapolis| 1 replyGot a call from this number - as unknown caller - at 4:23 p.m., a voicemail was left for me; was an automated message, started talking about getting a lower interest rate and at that point I deleted the voicemail.
- Caller: Unknown
- Julea| 2 repliesAnother call from "Rachel at Card Services" who has probably called everyone in the US by now. It doesn't matter at all if you're on DNC, the government will never do anything effectively. DNC is a joke and thought up to pacify all the voters who were complaining. Also, even if it did work, these are scammers who aren't going to obey the law anyway. They travel around the country, usually using disposable phones. If you're unfortunate enough to get a Middle Eastern or East Indian male, they can be really vicious. Don't bother arguing with them because there is no way you can match them in invective and vulgarity unless you're a psychopath yourself. The Better Business Bureau, so helpful in most areas, can't help you because this is not a legitimate business. Do yourself a favor and don't answer the phone if you don't recognize the number calling.
- Caller: Card Services
- Call type: Telemarketer
- ROCKY replies to JuleaI got one it said lower your interest rates. I hung up.
- phonetrayfolks, no need in getting bent out of shape over these calls, just download the free version of phonetray and use it, it'll 'zap' telemarketer calls...any calls you add to the list..you must have a dialup modem in your pc that is able to decypher caller id...i fell in love with this program first day i downloaded it..when my phonetray sees caller name: private, unavailable, unknown...etc...it auto answers and plays the 'not in service' sound wav;)...if it's a 'robo' dialer calling you, once it hears those 'not in service' tones, it removes your number from their list
again...
you must have a dialup modem installed on your pc that can read caller id info and you must have the caller id service(feature) on your phone for it to work
there are 3 versions of phonetray, get the FREE version

- Joe| 2 repliesThe national pandemic of telephone terrorism perpetrated by desperate criminal collection agencies is because they are trying to terrorize people who are naive enough to answer and submit to unsolicited telephone calls or written "collection" letters that have no legitimate legal debt associated with them or any of the companies, universities, or whomever else they claim to represent. Because most "little guys" were bankrupted by the criminal Wall St/Congress/Big Oil/Big Bankers/Big Business/Military/Robber Barons, so the desperate collection agencies are attempting to collect unpaid debts from innocent people by terrorizing them into submission.
Word of advice. NEVER answer any calls you don't recognize or are not expecting. Use selective call rejection service if available, or switch to an Internet-based telephone service which provides comprehensive call rejection options. If rogue calls become chronic, turn off all the ringers on all of your phones except one, and set its volume to the minimum setting. If you don't answer the call and the caller is legitimate, they will usually leave a voicemail after the first or second try. Rogue callers never leave voicemail messages because that could be used as evidence against them if it came to a lawsuit. If you receive a rogue letter in the mail warning you of some "collection" action against you, if you don't actually owe it, reply with a short letter stating that you don't owe it. Or if you do owe all or part of it, reply with something like "You claim I owe you a debt. Under §809 FDCPA, I request validation of this debt."
Only give them your name as THEY have written it to you (e.g. “John Doe” not “Jonathon Q. Doe” or however you normally sign your own name), address, and the account number they report. But if you do not owe the debt (zombie debt, aged debt, mistaken or stolen identity, forgery, etc.) state that you have never done any business with them or with the (alleged) original creditor of any kind and you expect the collection agency to close the matter, stop harassing you and take any bad credit marks they've caused off of your credit rating, and furthermore, that any further contact from them must be in writing on their official business correspondence letterhead. Send your letter to them a.s.a.p., always within thirty days, first class certified mail return receipt requested. If they refuse it and you get the letter back unopened, leave it unopened and save it in your files as evidence against them should they pursue legal action against you. If they did receive it and continue to pursue action against you, let them. The judge will throw it out of court. If the rogue collection agency sells your account to another rogue collection agency just tell them the claim has been proven invalid and offer to send them a copy of your letter to the previous rogue collection agency. Warn all your friends about this rash of desperate collection agency terrorism, and how to combat it. Knowledge is power. The more you learn how to combat rogue collection agencies, back-taxes scammers, phishing scammers, and other flimflammers, the more you will learn how easy it is to do.
Above all, keep a record of everything, of every rogue call w/ caller ID information displayed including time and day of each call. Maintain a complete file on any snail-mailed intimidation from rogue collection agencies, including copies of all correspondences and postal receipts. Reporting rogue calls on sites like
800notes.com, whocallsme.com, phoneowner.info is a great idea too, because many people find these sites by googling for the rogue number(s) after receiving calls from them.

- PacmanMessage was left on my answering machine regarding lowering my mortgage interest rate.
Caller id read Orlando, Fl and 407-434-9999.
When I tried to call this number, I got a male voice, "This number is no longer in service.
Please check your number and try again".
I wonder if these scammers have a recording that plays to incoming calls.
I reported to the Public Service Commission.- Caller: unknown
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MarySame robo-call message as Tom, above. I hung up, and the call did not disconnect. Probably a spoofed caller ID number, since the call is so blatently illegal.
- Dave replies to JoeThanks for posting this info - good advice not to answer unrecognized numbers - I started doing that a few years ago. If it is important, they'll leave you a message. I try to save the calling number in my address book as "junk" or "scam" so when they call again it pops up as "junk" and I am reminded not to reflexively answer the call. I also don't answer numbers that come up "restricted"
- lanekeep getting calls from this # & 4074809999. how do we stop them from calling? we are one"DO NOT CALL REGISTRY"
- Caller: credit card service
- Call type: Telemarketer
- TammyIDENTITY THIEVES !!!!
These people use disposable phones to call you and pretend to be a "credit card service", or a "utility company" , or some "research company"
They will ask you questions to STEAL YOUR I.D. with the info you give them.
THEY can call from jails and prisons on cheap throw-away phones.
When you answer your phone (even once) they will tell other rogue phone scammers about your phone number and you will get calls for YEARS.
When you talk to them , you are talking to people who are just out of jail (or still in the Minimum Security section of lock-up!!)
Theses people are gypsy scammers and will use throw-away phones so it is no use trying to track them.
Block their call, or DO NOT answer , or for heavens sake they will steal your identity!!!! - Boston, MassachusettsCalled today. No message.
ID says Orlando, FL- Caller: Orlando, FL
- DiannaCardI filed a complaint with donotcall.gov. I don't expect that will help, but maybe, if they get enough complaints. I also blocked the number w;/ my phone company. At least Rachel won't be calling me agian.
- FreidaI had a package enroute with FedEx and picked up this call by mistake! Normally I wouldn't have answered 'UNAVAILABLE'. A recording started with "Hi, this is Rachel. You credit card...." I hung up before the message was complete. I only have ONE bank debit card. Therefore they had absolutely NO REASON to be calling me. Just my luck to be expecting a once a year call and pick up on these idiots. Being venegeful, I'm reporting them to 2-3 call report sites!!! ;-))
- Caller: UNAVAILABLE
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Susan replies to TomGot a call today from the same number. I am on the do-not-call registry. When I get these calls I can't disconnect while the robocall is playing. This is borderline criminal because if there is an emergency I wouldn't have a free line but would have to wait until the robocall is over, losing precious seconds.
When I press a key to get a live person and start to ask them not to call, I get a Bronx cheer, a curse (usually "F- - - you") or they just laugh and hang up on me in mid-sentence.
I've reported them to the FTC via their website. - johnson| 1 replywon't stop calling even though we are on the do not call list. Automated call claims they are account services.
- Caller: account services
- Steve replies to IndianapolisI got the very same call. I deleted it at the point where they offered lower interest rates also. Thank you all for posting.
