Received a call from this number yesterday and the previous day, they left no message. Today I picked up and spoke to them for about 20 minutes. They are offering a "special discounted rate" at their new resort in Orlando or Vegas. For fun, I chose Orlando and let the person do his spiel. They are contacting "preferred Hilton customers" for this special promotion, 4-days, 3-nights for only $149+tx but the catch is you need to confirm right now with your credit card. I refused and told him I would need to check it out and would confirm later. Of course that is not possible since they need to fill the resort now. Their reasoning: they want to start word-of-mouth hype about the resort before launching their commercial blitz. Another person, a "marketing manager" came on the line trying to convince me of their legitimacy. Directed me to the hilton resort website etc, and provided more detail. We agreed that they would call me back in a few hours (I cannot call them - they cannot take in-bound calls). Also you need a US address, I am in Canada. Within a few hours, they will call me back and I need to confirm the dates with my credit card and provide a US address. (At some point during the call, I heard people celebrating loudly in the background. Why would you celebrate a sell like that if you actually are Hilton? Don't they sell hotel stays every day?)
I called Hilton central and they were not aware of the promotion; they do not call customers, customers call them. They suggested I contact the hotel, perhaps the promotion is specific to the hotel. I called the hotel and could not get anyone from marketing on the line. Left a message asking them to get back to me.
All in all, anyone who asks you to pay for vacation on the spot is a scam artist if you ask me. I will let them run around a bit then slam them when they call me back today. After all I am off work this week and this is entertaining.
