I was looking to trade my beetle for a new car.  Signed up and got a phone call from a restricted number.  I didn't respond.  A few minutes later I got a call from 408-228-0163 and it rang for ages and no one answered.  Seems phoney to me.

submitted a price quote request on a carsdirect.com website at mid-night and got an anonymous call, followed by a call from 408-228-0163.

I have not signed up on any of these websites that have been mentioned on many blogs and this same thing happened to me this evening... first a call from a "Private" number, and then about 30 seconds later a call from (408)228-0163.

The same thing happened to me as above. I signed up for a quote on cars.com, then got a phone call from a private number and then 408-228-0163. I didn't answer either call, and didn't get a voicemail

after signing up with new car insider a call on my phone came in as unknown answered it no one answered then a few minutes later a call from the 4082280163 came in once again nobody responded when i answered.

SAME HERE! I SIGNED UP FOR A PRICE QUOTE! AND IF YOU HAVEN'T SIGNED UP FOR A PRICE QUOTE SOMEONE WHO WAS TRYING PROBABLY GAVE A PHONY NUMBER WHICH MIGHT HAVE BEEN YOURS! BUT WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? WHY DOES'NT ANYONE SAY ANYTHING? OCT.28

same thing. I signed up for a quote on 3 sites: cars.com, invoicedealers.com, and yahooautos.com. Immediatly got a phone call from a restricted number and the 408-228-0163. I didn't answer either call, and didn't get a voicemail.

Same thing for me. Interesting though. I had seen the price quote request on a web site called Beatthecardealer.com or something like that. This guy says he has the best interest of the buyer at heart and then hooks you up with a price quote from someone who wont even leave a message when they call. Amazing actually. I used advice from a site called ladysavings.com the last time I bought a car and it was awesome. I paid exactly what I wanted to pay and had a great experience. I would recommend this highly to anyone.

I sent a request for more info on a vehicle on Overstock.com and the same thing happened.  First a call from the "restricted" number and then 408-228-0163.

Got a phone call at 7:30am (blocked), followed by a call from 408-228-0163.

Requested price quotes on kbb.com.  Got a Blocked Caller ID call followed by a call from 408-228-0163.  Placed the request around 11:10pm Eastern and received calls around 11:18pm.

I signed up for a price quote and was minutes late slammed with several calls first two calls were blocked ids next 2 were the 1 408-228-0163 number. Can the phone call be blocked? This is an invasion of privacy since I requested to be contacted by email.

I signed up on car quote and I got a call from a restricted number about 10 minutes after I signed up.  I didn't answer since I don't answer restricted or unavailable call.  In about 3 minutes got a call from 408-228-0163.  No one was there and then in 3 more minutes I got a call from unavailable.  I'm not crazy about getting calls from someone who doesn't answer.  I'm not even sure where 408 area code is located.  Please if you have any ideas let me know.

I did the same thing shopping online....got a phone call after midnight and it was a restricted call then this 408 number.....so beware....I didn't answer....they didn't leave messages.....don't know who it was...but this is fishy.  I believ 408 is a San Jose Area code in California

Call back 10 hours later, that number does not even exist!

We need to stop spam... I work nights, but for some other person, to get two calls at 4 am, is breaking the whole night sleep apart!!!
